Hsdpa Speeds

Hi

I am sure people are getting tired of my HSDPA woes but here is a telkom speed test. I would like people to conferm if this is what I can expect From a merlin U740 and 3 bars of supposedly 3G signal.

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 41.578 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 98.1 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 12 (kiloBytes/second)

As much as i would like to tell you that im getting way better speed, thats pretty much what im getting. I have tried this in 4 different locations, and it stays more or less the same. I got my card this week, and im REALLY po'ed!

Thanks now I feel better not being the only one who feels like we where over promised. Maybe IC could set up a poll asking what the genral feel towards HSDPA is and the average speeds we are getting. And weather or not we feel we where guinnie pigs for vodacom.

any takers


AS you can imagine I am really annoyed.:mad:

Please run the speed test on speed.vodacom.co.za/test and post that. I'd like to get your upload speeds as well.

The whole day I couldn't get a 3G signal and suddenly only after 19:00 I'm getting a 2 bar 3G signal.

Test done 03 june 2006 19:29
Download Speed: 580 kbps (72.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 56 kbps (7 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 55 kbps (6.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

been this way for ages now.

Download Speed: 328 kbps (41 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 345 kbps (43.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

The funny thing is, both the dashboard and telkom speed test display a speed ALLOT slower than that.

Here is the test on telkom....
Download time: 50.602 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 80.6 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 9.9 (kiloBytes/second)


I have sent you my details before, you requested my physical address which i mailed to you on j.....@vodacom.co.za.

The other funny thing about the speed test is that it ALLWAYS shows a higher upload speed than download (for me anyways). Is this possible?

OK, looked in the wrong inbox...:)

The numbers show congestion on both the transmission to your tower (uplink outperforming downlink) as well as internet link congestion (diff between two tests).

been on 3g and now hsdpa since inception... and i reckon it is definately slowing down. as more and more users sign up, we have to start sharing more and more...

its 1.30am and the best i can do speed wise on my hsdpa (which used to fly) is

* Download time: 61.909 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 65.9 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 8.1 (kiloBytes/second)

damn my old sentech 128 was faster.

and on the voda test

Last Result:
Download Speed: 59 kbps (7.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 341 kbps (42.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
