HSDPA USB or PCMCIA

Hi everyone,

This is my first time:D so if this has been discussed earlier, sorry.

I got a 3G HSDPA card from Vodacom a while back for my laptop. It is a PCMCIA card.
We want another one now in the company, so the guys at Nashua tells me there is a new USB version of this modem available. I'm unable to find any info regarding this new modem or even pictures anywhere on the net.
Does anyone know if the fact that it is a USB connection will slow down the speed or not. Should I rather buy a PCMCIA>USB converter to be able to use the PCMCIA modem on my desktop as well?

Any info will help.

Thanks
Brodsky:cool:

It's the Huawei E220 USB modem, very nice and 3.6Mb/s ready. Does not come with an external antenna socket but I've not had any need for one in the same spot where my Huawei HSDPA E620 card needs an antenna.

Stay away from any kind of adaptor if possible, they mostly work, but you never know if you're going to pick up problems.

Also, the new generation of laptops problably won't have PCMCIA slot.

Why can't laptops just use normal USB modems to access the internet? You don't see a damn card slot in a desktop. I think USB modems are much better and it works on both desktops and laptops.

Thanks for the info, so you reckon I can't go wrong with the USB modem?
Where can I see a picture or photo of this?

Regards:D

It's being replaced with a PCI-x.

I asked in another thread when the PCI-x HSDPA cards will be available. I heard it would be this month.
I would like to know where they will be available and exactly when and then also pricing for them.

And pricing on the USB HSDPA ones too, if possible.

I was wondering about the adapters / converters, but V3G answered that one.
