Fair enough oc, i agree with you fully on this.

But strangely enough I've never experienced these issues (based in Sandton though) and I sometimes wonder what settings some of these users who experience these problems are using - I use both Cell C and Voda (company given) mobile broadband and experience no dropped connections or anything of the sort...

Just an update, tested it this morning and my whoosh is back, getting around 11Mbps downloads in the Pretoria North East area, Montana Park to be specific...

Update too: I sat online yesterday (with mixed browsing and downloading stuff NOW - was sitting with a client) on my whoosh instead of the office ADSL and, in the main, it seemed to be back.

Reasonable speeds during the day, but last night and tonight are really slow here.

Hi,
I finally got to talk to a real person at Onlinesupport@cellc.co.za in Durban, who was very helpful.

He walked me through using the CellC connection tools on my laptop.
Went to Options/Network and selected Manual network selection.
Refreshed and then selected CellC(2G/3G) and registered.
At second attempt the registration was successful.
Apparently this "registration" is stored in the modem.
Back to Connect and the thing started working again.
Plugged it into my 3G router (Billion 6200NXL) and it continued working well.

Have had some hick-ups, but this weekend I have an excellent 5.37/1.21 connection see
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1185419093.png

Also tested using http://www.myconnectionserver.com/
hosted at http://www.iburst.co.za/neuvo.aspx?link=service_support_speedtest
This is an extremely comprehensive test exploring all aspects of the connection even identifies the 21.7Mbps connection
All showed up well except the jitter which is about 100msec rather than the desired 1msec

Good luck with all your problems!
(PS: I have not yet canceled my Telkom ADSL - still need to be more confident that this is sustainable)

Great to see CellC working on the issues and communicating via these forums. You can forgive a lot if you just know what the hell is going on.

Hi,

I have been experiencing this problem since January. I get no throughput for 99.9% of the time. It has simply being unusable. I have sent numerous emails to online support and had some feedback (reference number 1320319). Cell C admits that there is a problem with site id 1039 but cannot/have not/will not give me an indication when this will be resolved. I have 4.9Gb for this month remaining, I lost 4.9Gb last month. Will there be any compensation for the data that cannot be used due to a Cell C fault? All I request is some feedback with regards to this fault.

@ Cell_C

Like alvinlee I'm also experiencing degradation in Fourways since last Thursday (upgrade?).

I've sent you a PM, and also mailed Support.

Hope you can help - the whoosh was good while it lasted.

My internet was stable again yesterday evening, but the throughput was a bit low. I generally get 2-3Mb/s but only got 1Mb.

Bought my speed stick yesterday from CellC (on contract) - only 2G connection at my office (Bedfordview Jhb).fail
Full connection (3G, HSDPA+) at my home (Pretoria Centurion) but the connection is very unstable - keeps on jumping and disconnection when I try to play games online.

I only bought this device/service because I recently moved and I'm still waiting for Telkom to complete my adsl line transfer.fail on it's own

I've tested my Vodacom card in the device and it works like a bomb - so the point is that the Cell C network is a fail.(not yet fully developed in such a way and still need about 2-3 years of work, that's if they don't close down . . . yaaikes)

Question: Is there any way that Cellc can migrate you to the Vodacom network with there service/package. . . somehow I doubt it, but that would be the best.

So I'll be testing mine this weekend - I'll definitely be handing it over if I see the same signs as being mentioned all over this thread.

Peace

Correction: fails for you. Working just fine for me >6mbs download average.

OTOH, Vodacom bombs here even though their mast is 100m closer to my house and has less obstructions. Doesn't exceed 2mbs. Vodacom Fail (for me)

hey look there's a happy customer :) lol

downloading speed doesn't say much to me as I'm more concerned about how stable the network is
sure if you're downloading at 4-6mb/s constantly it's pretty much stable but I doubt that's the case

If you can't provide the same service/infrastructure to all areas being rolled out, then what's the point.(meaning if you fall in the red highlighted on the coverage map you should be safe for a perfect experience, which is not the case)

The main reason people would move to this service would be "reliability and sustainability", something Telkom can't really give insurance on (yet it's more reliable then mobile network), so if Cell C can't provide that to users falling in the small coverage currently available then I don't see the point of launching the product now.

And, are you really going to use 5GB for downloading (what 7 movies) at 6mb/s (that means at that constant rate your cap will be out after 14 minutes), this 5GB would be ideal for gaming - doesn't seem like that's going to work

Sorry to disappoint but my average Cell C download speed is close to 6mbs. It goes off a bit during the day but never lower than 4mbs. Just because it isn't working for you, doesn't make Cell C's new network a "fail".

Anyone in customer service will confirm you never hear from the people who are happy with your product, only the unhappy ones. I had to push harder than I would have liked, but I sorted out my network issues with Cell C technicians (and management).

I don't think MTN or Vodacom provide anywhere near their theoretical advertised speeds. So 'perfect experience' is never going to happen.

I don't download movies - I visit my video store end of the street or watch HD movies on DSTV (hiss).

If your needs are for >10Gig a month, then like the Rouxenator, you better stick with ADSL. :)
