Stuck on EDGE for the last 4 days. Speeds not too bad though. West Rand Honeydew Ridge

Just checked...so is my Vodacom phone at the moment. Fist time I've ever seen it on EDGE.

Hi,
I live in Hatfield, Pretoria too, next to the University. My signal is always above 90% and yet my speed is under 10kbps all the time. And every few seconds it goes to 0kbps and then it stays there. Is this a problem on your side or on my side?
BTW I'm on Windows 7, but seeing this tells me that it's not only me living in Hatfield with this problem.

just to add, it seems like Mr Ron and his team is definitely fixing the problem, I was unable to access the google homepage for like 2 weeks, since last night there is light at the end of the tunnel...can at least open sites now and the speed is ok, just a bid dodge when one download something over 10 mb

Since beginning of Jan, access in Greenstone Hill has just been getting worse (forget e.g. to use Cell C for VOIP). Few days, interruptions to data streams have been constant. Since last night even worse! And starting from this morning, I've had countless disconnections. Just to write this post, I reconnected 2-3 times...!

Cell C please fix the lines - as otherwise people who depend on internet for work, will have to switch provider ones again!

+1

Was getting around 13mbps download in December, around 5-7mbps in early Jan, and now it's struggling to get past 1mbps.
Pings have also gone waaay up.

Hi Ron

Thanks for the awesome feedback, nice to see you guys on top of things. I've had an interesting week in terms of comparison of network performance in different areas, yesterday in Epsom Downs and today in Midrand, both areas very stable connection with great speeds throughout the day, this evening back in Norscot, had to force a 3G only connection via MDMA, as connection via CellC dash was erratic and bouncing into EDGE, current speed on HSPA+ at -87 dBm pretty abysmal with upload speed double the download speed and neither over 1Mb/s

Cell C data in whole of Richards Bay has been down since around 08.30 this morning. Confirmed with the Cell C store in the local mall. Let's hope these problems are temporary.

I see Ron has disapeared from the forum for a few days now, must be overloaded with all the requeste for a better stable reliable, what we paid for connection.

I did my usual skype session now with parent overseas, had over 1 Mbps upload and 15.07kbps down load (have a print screen of it Ron if you do not believe me).

Do cell c now throttle speeds??????????

Black Ops SA servers latency as high as european servers...

I'm not sure if this is related to the ongoing issues being experienced... I have been using the 21Mbps stick since launch in JoBurg and the speed and latency has been absolutely fantastic... I play Call of Duty black ops on local SA servers and I get an average latency of around 70ms.

Today however all the SA servers are coming up with the same latency as the european servers (Around 300ms) ... I can't help but wonder if there is an issue with the peering with MWEB that could be causing this problem, does anyone else have the same issue?

Here is the latest speed test I did today, which shows stats of 11.33 Mbps down, 2.45 Mbps up and 38ms ping for the JoBurg Cell C server so it's not a signal issue...

It is great to have a Cell C Rep again, having Ron Reddick is just AWESOME! :D

I am also suffering a lot in the Northriding area (Randburg). I have had many issues from the beginning and I had some complaints logged. (Cell C promised me that technicians would contact me to come and test the area, which never happened) I ended up buying a router. IN the right location, i eventually managed downloads of up to 6Mbps (55-60ms ping)which was quite good, although I should be getting better speeds. Since early-mid January, it has slowed down to about 1.5-2Mbps again if i am lucky, and pings have doubled/tripled in some cases.
Friday night, my connection just died and I am completely unable to connect to anything but the Cell C website. I considered the possibility of no data remaining on my speedstick, but according to my router's logs, I should have about 600MB remaining. When I plug the speedstick into my PC, I am unable to perform any USSD commands (they just time out) so I cannot see if I have any data available.
Please try and get someone to have a look at this.

not a great weekend from a connection perspective, lots of modem thrashing again between EDGE and HSPA+ (this showed signs of having gone away between Thursday and Friday but was all over the place last night), also the other problem experienced earlier in the week of dash and modem showing a connection but with no sign of download traffic, only upload, had to constantly reconnect to send emails etc.

not happy :mad::mad:

I would like to report that my internet was absolutely awesome over the weekend. I live in Paulshof, Johannesburg. I played many hours of WoW and Magicka online and the connection didn't drop or even spike once the entire weekend. Well done Cell C!!

I have an excellent signal -58db using a Poynting yagi to the tower LOS approx. 500m away. I live in a complex and three of us have such a poor speed it is unusable.
Montana, Pretoria. Tower base station ID 29013
