I have noticed that anything in -90's of dBm is asking to get disconnected. Have you tried the ping workaround?

Just want to give an update about my signal to everyone, and hope my solution can help someone else as well. It seems MTN or vodacom recently activated a new tower closer than the one I get Cell C from. My connection kept jumping from the one closer, only roaming, and the Cell C one. Once I moved my speedstick to a place were the Cell C tower was the preferred one, I stopped getting disconections, andmy speeds were constant. To get this set up right did require a 3g router though. I think wat Cell C really needs is a way to lock the modem to a certain tower, if available.

Sounds strange. The network and 3G/GPRS setting is stored on the modem. So if you set this with e.g. MDMA on a pc and then plug into the router, the modem will still only use Cell C and then only 3G towers.

Does anybody have email addresses or phone numbers for any senior management at CellC
eg Ron Reddick (if he is still CTO after this very poor performance!)

I'm hoping the last few days is not an indication of the future :(

I reckon CellC is getting so many complaints they are past caring. Look at it this way. After 4 months your cost per meg is more or less the same as what you would have paid Voda

I am in the FOURWAYS area.
I have had good service for most of Feb, avg about 3.5Mbps download.

Hi Steve

I'm also in Fourways, near Broadacres. This is what I'm seeing on Monday morning at 07h30. I wonder if we're on the same tower? I shouldn't think so, judging by the difference in experience, but if you had an aerial aimed at this tower might it be better?

BTW - you the Steve R that used to be at GFSA?

Cheers
Graham

Just an update guys. This w end signal picked up in the Rooihuiskraal area. Not to the level of Centurion, but a little better it was still intermittent and had lag spikes and times when I couldnt connect, but could actually hit web sites and log into game servers. As a side note iBurst picked up as well. I dont know if there is a link or not. Still Im sitting on -81 Dbi at work and getting a better internet experience than the -61 Dbi at home. Seriously thing it was a network issue.

In the Hatfield area and only getting Edge coverage on the white dongle. Been like that for the last month and a half at least. Have gotten to a point where I have just given up on using the dongle and basically have paid R1499 for nothing. Hopefully they sort out these issues soon.

Hi,
I have used a couple of tools (MDMA & MWConn) to try and identify the problem.
The Tower is identified as LAC 50 RNC ID 101 CellID 12201 and I think it is at MonteCasino.
I can see -75dBm on HSPA+, but the actual data throughput is nonexistent.

The tools also suggest that with the CellC SIM card can access UMTS on Vodacom and 8ta - only MTN is "forbidden"
I believe CellC's agreement with Vodacom makes EDGE available, and at times I wondered if that's what we have. Does anybody know if 8ta also have an agreeement with Vodacom?

I oddity is that when I get a little bit of data, the upload speed seems to be 2x the download speed.

It is getting ridiculous - why will they not tell us what is happening!

BTW - Not GFSA but JCI & AngloPlat.

That's not the tower I found on MDMA. Can't tell you the tower ID offhand, as the stick is currently plugged into the router. I think I saw a post somewhere that said a recently erected competitor tower "got in the way" and caused someone's connection to go to Edge - this makes me wonder where the CellC towers are in Fourways, and is a better tower necessarily the closest? You can see from my speedtest that this tower is healthy.

Yes, JCI. That's where we met.

I am having difficulty with accessing overseas websites.

A local speed test shows great speeds, i.e. 10Mbps/2.5Mbps, but it takes forever to do a speed test using an overseas server.

Any reason for this?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like they fixed the problem, whatever it was.

I have seen of instances of "reasonable" speed, but they are not repeatable.
See if this is sustained.
If yes, please tell us where you tower is so that we can also test.

I gave up on the last 200meg or so of last month's data bundle: my stick gives every indication of working but it's very much of a case of "the light's on but no-one's home" ..hell, my iBurst connection boomed in (comparatively) at 100-120MB/s where Cell-C just did diddley. Thing is: the [statistics] page on the dialer *indicates* that something is happening, it's just that nothing does.

Earlier in this thread Ron mentions a "3rd party" solution for all their speed stick drivers... has this been released yet? I'm looking for drivers for their new ZTE dongles...

I think the Cell C officials need to address these problems brought up here as we are all struggling badly with very little assistance from Cell c! See the link to the thread below.

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-problem-narrowed-down.....but-what-now/page3

Not happy

Agree the black modem does get very hot - I developed the habit of switching it off when not required.
However, I used the SIM in my Android phone which has a HSPA+ 900MHz modem, and while the signal is very good, the data is non existent.

PLEASE CELLC TELL US WHAT IS GOING ON11111
