HTC Phones - From Biggest Smartphone Maker to Nothing

Yeah I was hyped up for the TYTN II so I had to get one - was a good phone but damn it frustrated me so much, I kept on changing roms to get 3D acceleration to work lol, from what I remember the phone had a GPU but lacked the Drivers for the Win Mobile OS, left quite a bitter taste in my mouth, HTC couldnt care less about fixing it, eventually gave up and never went back after that.

HTC to announce a flagship Android phone in April

Don’t call it a comeback just yet but HTC is reportedly looking to bring a flagship Android phone as early as next month. The news comes from Taiwan’s DigiTimes which got confirmation from HTC Vive Asia-Pacific GM Charles Huang at an HTC event part of MWC 2022. HTC’s new flagship would be the first of its kind since the HTC U12+ from back in 2018. The upcoming HTC flagship will focus on VR and AR with deep integration to HTC’s own open-source metaverse platform dubbed Viveverse.

It would be interesting to see how HTC fares given that it sold a large chunk of its smartphone business to Google back in 2018 and has since been releasing few low-end and midrange Android phones in limited markets. We’ll make sure to update you with more info on HTC’s upcoming device as soon as more info emerges.

//Turns around to dig in the cupboard...

Yep. It's still here.

Fantastic phone and was my first Android. Definitely the best phone I've ever had.

I miss getting the "You have an HTC phone??" reaction. People that didn't have one don't really understand the level of quality that these phones were.

The battery is probably shot, but let's see if it will turn on...

Hope they do something different to the norm. They were always good at that previously. So many phones out there these days, all so similar...

Still got it?
I do indeed.

Really really strange coincidence...

I didn't have much more to say because as far as I could remember... I still have that phone but it is in a drawer at my parents house.

The last time I saw it (May 2020), it would charge and come on and mostly work, but die after a few minutes. Still, pretty remarkable for a phone from 2011. The screen looked great.

So tonight I'm clearing out the place I'm currently staying at... and turns out I brought it here at some point with a whole bunch of old tech stuff. Doesn't come on anymore but still feels so amazing in the hand. :crying:

Will probably be getting rid of it now... So a last post in honour of that legend.

Samsung with the help of google killed off the other makers.
People ignore Google’s role in the hardware market.

HTC's flagship phone delayed

We doubt that there are many of you holding your breath waiting for HTC's next flagship phone given that it's been a while since the company released a high-end device. The handset was expected to make its debut in April but it seems that it has been delayed.

The reason for the delay is reportedly COVID-19-induced supply chain issues, so HTC hasn't abandoned its project. Some believe that the phone will have an unusual appeal, just like the Exodus 1 and Exodus 1s smartphones, which were blockchain-centric.

This time around, HTC's flagship will likely be related to the company's Vive Flow VR headset in a way and maybe run augmented reality apps itself. Perhaps it's time for a second take and this time HTC is betting on the growing metaverse fad.

Had the 626 Desire from 2016-2019 before I upgraded. The phone was fine but the battery was bad at the end. I still have it and it works but just needs a sim tray.

It was a nightmare sourcing parts. Nobody had the glass screen protectors so I had to order them off Ebay.

HTC Wildfire E3 Lite announced with Unisoc chipset

HTC is no longer making smartphones, but it's licensing its brand to interested makers and the Wildfire E3 Lite is the latest entry-level phone to be born out of this arrangement. E3 Lite brings a 6.5-inch LCD with HD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch housing its 5MP front-facing camera.

The back holds a 13MP main camera next to a 2MP macro module and an LED flash. The phone is equipped with a Unisoc SC9863 chipset alongside 3/4GB RAM and 32/64GB storage which is expandable via the microSD slot.

The nice thing about going from big to nothing is that by the time you're nothing, no one cares.

HTC made my first portable phone devices: iMate Pocket PC, iMate SmartPhone and SmartPhone2, iMate JAM, iMate JASJAR, then HTC-branded devices like HTC Touch, Touch Diamond, HD and HD2. Fantastic little machines.

HTC U23 Pro announced: Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, 108MP camera, and 120Hz screen

HTC has officially unveiled the HTC U23 Pro which leaked earlier this month. It's built around a 6.7" FullHD+ OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus' protection. The display has a centered punch hole for the 32MP selfie camera, but it doesn't have a fingerprint scanner underneath since that's embedded in the power button on the phone's right-side frame.

Around the back, we get a rectangular camera island housing flash and four cameras - 108MP primary (with OIS), 8MP ultrawide, 5MP macro, and 2MP depth.

Under the hood, the HTC U23 Pro has the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC with 8GB or 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It also has a microSD card slot for storage expansion and runs Android 13 out of the box.
