I think the ship has sailed for HTC in SA.
Just hearing “wildfire” brought back warm and fuzzy memories.
I wish they can bring in more than just budget smartphones. I hate to see HTC reduced to the likes of mobicell

Throwing out cheapies hoping something would stick.
Is this another government connected company "investing" in HTC?

Aside from the camera the HTC One M7 was the best phone I ever had. Would love to see some decent offerings from HTC.

I've had three or four HTCs over the years. Loved them all. Not sure what they'll bring to the table after selling their whole smartphone division to Google though.

Yeah, I wonder how long they will last, considering the last two companies licensed to do HTC stuff dropped them like flies. And then when HTC was gone and we were left with the Orange store, they sent me two lemons before I got one that worked properly.

I loved my (working) M8, it was the first decent flagship I ever had, but the brand support, stock issues - even when they were "here", and quality problems have left me sour.

Perhaps I would feel a bit more better if they planned on bringing more than those seriously low end phones. An offering like the HTC Desire 20 Pro would have been nice. But really, who am I kidding? I'm with Nokia now.

They didn't buy the whole division just the people that worked on the OG Google Pixel...

After several weeks of rumors, Google announced this evening an “agreement” that will see HTC employees who worked on the Pixel join the Alphabet company’s hardware division. The deal is valued at $1.1 billion, while HTC will continue to run its smartphone business.

Enjoyed the One M8 immensely I brought in UK whilst residing there Super performing phone for it's time, slim and sexy.

Sold it when I returned to SA in late 2017 and heard about HTCs exit from market, lack of local support, firmware updates, etc and been with Huawei P10 ever since.

Might, look at one as next upgrade.
V cautiously though... And not a basic, entry level model they understandably seem to be punting to the SADC region either.

So many good Android brands have died or become irrelevant because QA seems to be a foreign thing to them.

HTC, Blackberry, Motorola, Xperia, even Nokia is ballsing it up.

I hear you. Nostalgia & all. The issue is generally speaking nostalgia does not sell phones.

I am actually using mine now again. Flashed it with Lineage OS 17.1 with Android 10

The camera has aged really badly though. Gosh the photos suck lol
