Huawei’s P30 is ready to take over South Africa

Huawei has launched its new P30 and P30 Pro smartphones in South Africa, and it expects the devices to perform extremely well in the local market.

Speaking in an interview with MyBroadband, Huawei South Africa CTO Akhram Mohamed said the company expects the smartphones to be extremely popular in South Africa.

Nah, had 4 Huawei phones before (P20 being the last one) and went over to the Galaxy S10 Plus, just way better experience overall, best screen I've ever seen, software/interface is light-years better than Huawei's EMUI.

The P30 Pro camera might be better, but the camera alone doesn't make the phone "the best".

I wonder when TakeAlot will stock these handsets.

What's the price difference?

+-R2500, takealot has the S10+ for R19k at the moment.

If you are really into photography then by all means go with the P30 Pro, otherwise just go with the S10 or S10+.

Thanks for the feedback.
If only. I don't have that kind of money to spend [on a phone].

Sucks that these cheap low-quality phones are what we have, but I cannot deny they are popular due to being the cheapest. It's the majority of my hotspot users.

low quality? What crack are you smoking now?

Most Huawei & Honor phones are kak. Overpriced kak.

Who charges R4000 + for a phone & doesn't include Gorilla Glass. Nokia's cheapest phones have Gorilla Glass protection.

We are also paying inflated prices for Huawei & Honor phones.

That kak Honor 10 Lite is R4500. Wtf?

Don't get me started on build quality. Samsung & Nokia's budget & midrange devices are much more durable.

R&d doesn't even cost Huawei. Everyone & their grandma using a Huawei phone probably has a Kirin 710 Soc in it.
The price of the P smart 2019 is terrible.

Some od these Huawei/Honor phones make sense in other markets because it is priced appropriately. In SA we are paying a R1000 + premium compared to other countries.

SA consumers are drinking too much Huawei koolaid.

Never had a need to use it tbh.

Until you've used it yes, then you'll realise how crap it is to use plastic, LOL. I pretty much use Samsung Pay everywhere, very few places these days that doesn't have upgraded card machines.

Also another great thing is that I no longer have to get my card replaced every 6 months due to chip issues, which is a fricking nightmare!

Mobile NFC payment is the future.

Works with the 30 lite if you have a proper bank ;)

FNB App has the same thing?
Also, most places are upgrading to tap and go.

Already purchased my P30 Pro, coming from a Samsung S8.

Camera was the deciding factor.

Would be too much of a compromise for me.

I think my S8 offers more value and can't justify the inflated prices on these devices.
I totally get your point though - those cameras are amazing. One would have to use their smartphone cameras considerably to switch though
