Just an observation. Was with RAIN tech yesterday trying out the new HUAWEI Hybrid 5G ODU seeing if it could sort out the intermittent signal issues I am having. Far from scientific but I can tell you that Hybrid is definitely not as capable in terms of signal strength as the standalone ODU + Q2 setup.

We had device up in same location albeit Hybrid just underneath my ODU and it was battling to get out of the 100's (RSRP), where as the ODU + Q2 was in the mid to low 90's. Looking at the two devices side by side would tell me that the ODU is intended for more of an industrial application and could probably reach further with what it has under the hood.

Mileage may vary of course but in my case, myself and RAIN tech were in back end of the units reading signal live. If you're in a really challenging location and need some extra grunt ask for the ODU + Q2 setup.

Wow thank you for the share.

I thought this would be the case but its nice to know , did he at least walk around the whole yard testing signal ?

I have moved mine twice since i put it on the roof and getting Sub -80 to -85 now but late last night was getting -92.

Naa. Spot where I have my ODU is as good as it is going to get. About 10 meters off the ground mounted and earthed to poll. I can rotate poll and lock onto best signal. Contrary to what RAIN engineers say, these units are not 360 degree omnidirectional. They need to point in general direction of nearest tower for best results.

Does the ODU and the hybrid look the same physically?
Did your speeds improve with the ODU?

Same type of design, ODU about a third bigger in size compared to Hybrid. I am in a tough location (could not activate sim) so I was given a ODU. Signal does fluctuate but best its being is low 80's (RSRP), worse around 106. Average around 96. Waiting for network to expand in area hopefully should see a more stable connection.

Speeds best I had around 430Mbps, worse 2Mbps. Average currently around 150Mbps.

Ahh ok. My sim was activated. Achieved Max download speeds of around 100 Mbps with the Hybrid unit on a pole on my roof but speeds are not consistent. Rain Tech is coming tomorrow to try the ODU + indoor Q2 to see if there are any improvements.

So did you cancel your service?

The in door unit is also not omni directional.

If you take the unit and look at it from the back wher the ports are the right hand side of the unit is the 5G antenna and that should be pointed at the tower. Rotating the unit in the opposite direction halved speeds for me.

Hi guys,

I see there is 3 unit offerings with Rain 5G, the original, then hybrid, then the hybrid with a Q2 unit, is that correct?
Which is the best option from the above with regards to signal & speed...
And if someone could mention the exact model #'s of these units ...
