Huawei B683 for 3G and PPPoE connection

Hi, I got an Huawei B683 router which is working very well I must say. But now i got the iBurst desktop modem as well and that is hooked up to an Sitecom wi-fi router.

My question is, can i get rid of the Sitecom router and hook the iBurst modem up with the Huawei B683 and set the PPPoE up on it so that both the 3G is used and the iBurst. Basically I want to get rid of using 2 separate wi-fi networks and still be able to use both internet paths to increase my speed.

Is this possible? :confused:

No. B683 do not support USB modems, so you have to keep other router.
I suspect you have interconnect problems between two WfiFi segments.

To deal with the issue (depends on firmware version) you can disable WiFi and firewall on B683 and hook it up to the WAN port of Sitecom (if available) by cable. This way Sitecom becomes your main router. If your Huawei firmware doesn't support main firewall switch, there is workaround by setting up your Sitecom in DMZ of B683.

Ok, let's replace the sitecom router with the Netgear DGN2200. So I have my iBurst desktop modem connected to the WAN port and setup as PPPoE for internet. And uses the WiFi to connect the users on. But then I have an Huawei B683 completely separate on the other side with a SIM card in and WiFi on as well. So I have 2x WiFi networks with different ISP.

I want to join the DGN220 and the B683 somehow, so that only the WiFi of one is enable. And computers connecting to the WiFi must be able to use both ISP. Either through the WAN port on the DGN2200 (that is connected to my iBurst modem) or through the B683.

Is there a way to set this up?

AFAIK, DGN2200 does not have any WAN port, just ADSL socket. To handle scenario I described above, your router must have a free WAN Ethernet port (RJ45 socket marked WAN, not a LAN). Also in your original post you indicated preference for having one WiFi segment instead of two. I do support this, it will make your life easier.

If you really want two WiFi segments, remember that Huawei do not support any WiFi joining/repeating functions. I is why I suggested cable connection between two routers.

The DGN2200 you can setup the LAN port 4 as a WAN in the config. That is working. I don't mind linking the DGN2200 and B683 with a network cable. I would prefer to switch the wifi off on the B683 and use only the wifi on the DGN2200. The DHCP is on on the DGN2200, but how do get the users to be able to use both sources of internet. Currently it all goes through the WAN port through the iBurst. How do i make it use the WAN port (iBurst) as well as the 3G connection on the B683? I have an normal network cable between the DGN2200 and B683, both on normal LAN ports. I can can set the IP of the B683 static, but have it assigned by the DHCP of the DGN2200.

3G port for 3G,WAN port for Desktop modem (usually the desktop modem has Eth and Usb)

,the fact that he's asking this makes me inclined to think the complexity of using Mikrotik might be a bit above his fireplace

I agree. I missed this: "still be able to use both internet paths to increase my speed" in the original post.
Now we are talking about LOAD BALANCING router. It is very complex.
