Hi all. I have been experiencing a problem with my ADSL over the last month. I had a telkom tech come in and replace the cables from the pole to my house and the problem still exists. The problem is that my router (Huawei from telkom) keeps loosing sync every few minutes which causes me to lose connection. Once the modem re syncs it syncs at a much lower speed each time. Does anyone know the cause of this problem? Could it be the modem?

Have any of you been able to update the DNS settings for Unotelly on this router? The only place where I can fill DNS server settings is Basic -> LAN. Unotelly still complains that my settings aren't correct... :(

EDIT: Nevermind... It seems that some problems just go away with a little patience... :D

This topic is quite informative. I think Telkom is providing me with this router on Wednesday for my FTTH installation. Thankfully I have a monster ASUS and Mikrotik daisy chain combo. The ASUS is a bridged for WDS (Wifi distribution service).

I'll likely just use this Hauwei to extend/ improve my Wifi signal elsewhere in my house. But I am also considering connecting the fibre directly to a Mikrotik with SFP - has any one tried this?

Huawei Hg532f Modem

Just upgraded my Copper ADSL to FTTH (Fibre) They do not offer month to monthand I am being given the Huawei HG532F Modem. Does anyone know if it is a good Fibre router. Everything I have read says that it is a ADSL modem.

I have two routers from telkom, the Netgear and this one. I have an issue with the distance of the wifi signal of this router. As soon as i step out of the room where the router is the wifi signal gets very bad to no signal whereas the Netgear i can easily sit in any room with no issues. I do not have a big house. I cant think that the wifi signal can be this bad on a router.

What can i check or do to make this better? The wifi settings are defaut values. Is there a setting I need to change? Something is not right on this router.

Thanks

I have an old Telkom Billion Router and the range on that and my HG532F is fairly similar, both are not great though. On the Basic > WLAN page in the HG532F check that the Transmit Power is set to the maximum, 20. You should also download a Wifi Analyzer and check which channel is the least used around your house, either 1, 6 or 11 and then use that one. Its possible that the default channel which your router is set to may also be heavily utilised by your neighbours which could be causing interference.

Thanks guys, I updated the firmware as per link above and it made a noticeable difference.

Channel is set to Auto and Transmit power on 20.

i did a continuous ping to my router the other night (over wifi) and i kept getting timeout after every 5-10 successful reply's. And i am sitting right in front of the router. the performance is not very stable. i will try going thought the different channels.

I hate this router. It won't handle two people gaming over wifi at all.

Luckily the update that they sent me bricked the router then makro lost it. So I got a better router.

Hi,

Seems this link is not working grant? Can you upload it to dropbox again likethe other version?

I see the firmware is now available to download from Huawei website.
http://consumer.huawei.com/za/support/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=86703&key4=532f

Date: 2016-8-9
Version: HG532f-32 V100R001C198B022
File Size: 12.08 MB

Apparently there is a new version coming as well which is still being tested according to an email I received from mobile.africa@mail01.huawei.com
