The Huawei P-series is dead — long live the Pura

Huawei Technologies Co. released its latest series of smartphones on Thursday, sustaining its momentum after the breakthrough Mate 60 device helped erode Apple Inc.’s dominance in China’s high-end segment.

The Pura 70 smartphone series starts at 5,499 yuan (R14,430.36) and scales all the way to 9,999 yuan (R26,243.94) for an Ultra edition, which matches the price tag on some iPhone 15 models.

Huawei rolls out Pura 70, 70 Pro, and 70 Ultra to international markets

Huawei quietly unveiled its Pura 70 series smartphones across international markets, opening a new chapter for its flagship lineup. The series includes the Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro, and Pura 70 Ultra with new camera systems, updated aesthetics, and obviously a new name.

Notably absent from the lineup is the Pura 70 Pro+, which will remain exclusive to the Chinese market.

All three Pura 70 models feature the new Kirin 9010 chipset, manufactured on the 7nm process by SMIC. While Huawei has not officially confirmed any specifics regarding the chipset's capabilities, it is expected to offer improved CPU performance and enhanced AI features.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro & Pro+ hands-on review

The Huawei Pura 70 series has now been released globally, two weeks after its debut in China. We were invited to Huawei's headquarters in Shenzhen, where we had the opportunity to get hands-on experience with these exciting new devices.

While the Huawei P series has traditionally focused on photography, the new Pura series, derived from "Purity," promises to deliver "unseen wonders with bold imaginations" and to "lead the fashion sense" with its unique style. The cameras are arranged in a triangle formation, called "Forward Symbol Design". Here are our initial impressions, focusing specifically on the Pro model and its China-exclusive sibling, the Pro+.
