Huawei Mobile connect software

HI

Is it possible to bypass the mobile connect software and not have to click connect everytime, or even better, make it dial without the software even opening at all. Thing is, we use third party software written in-house, that calls the RAS connection directly. We don't want the software opening as the users fiddle around and it becomes a support nightmare. It is possible with the old huawei pcmcia cards we have.

thanks

With my setup, I basically click Start > Connect to > 3g Preferred connection, and it dials pretty much like any other modem. The profile installs itself into windows when VMC is set up. I don't bother with VMC, I find that it takes long to open up, and doesn't accurately measure usage etc. Only use it to send the occasional sms...

Check if the profile is available to you like mine is.

Ok, but everytime I plug it in the VMC software starts up automatically. We don't want that. We use our own APN settings etc. The software we developed uses specific settings to connect to our APN. So we created a dialup on each laptop, with a specific name. We don't want the people to be able to change the APN they dial into.

So what I propably should have asked is, is it possible to disable the "autostart" on the software?

Uninstall

Just uninstall the VMC, the profile will stay in dial up connection. This is how I am runnning my setup as the dashboard keeps causing problems with my LAN connection.

If I uninstall it, it uninstalls the drivers as well. Then each time you plug the card back in it installs the drivers, and then wants to install the Mobile Connect software again. It's not the Vodacom version, it has the Huawei software on.

I know this topic is a bit old, just thought I'd post here incase someone else has the same problem in future.

Ok, basically what you have to do, is plug the card in. Wait for the device manager to detect everything. It installs the virtual cd-rom. Browse to it, and install the modem drivers. Do not install the Mobile Connect software that starts up automatically. Then go to Start, Run, and type in "gpedit.msc". Under Computer Configuration go to Administrative Templates, then System, and look on the righthandside for Turn Off Autoplay feature. That should stop the cd-rom feature of the datacard to start up the Mobile Connect software setup automatically. You can then create your own RAS dial connections and dial with them at will without having to click the connect button.

Most people won't use this, just for okes using their own dialing software or such.

Here are some more options:
  1. Remove the assigned drive letter in Disk Management. You could possibly do this during the installation of your custom software. I normally do this anyway, as I find the emulated CD-ROM device a bit of a gimmick, once you have installed the software, why must it hang around?
  2. As I have mentioned in another thread, I believe it is possible to modify the embedded ISO image in the update EXE. Perhaps a custom ISO image with only your software and the drivers would be best for you. Please PM me if you're interested in this option.
  3. Tell your clients they need Windows Vista, after they upgrade, the emulated CD-ROM device in the E220 becomes unreadable! :)

Huawei E220 Software

I'lve had a look to see if there is any new software for the Huawei E220 modem and found that the May 2007 software version is gone and the previous version of E220 HOSTB106D02SP00C03 (Normal) (15521 KB) 28-Feb-2007 is back on. Is there something wrong with the May 2007 software?

I am using the May 2007 software and am not having any problems with it?

I am also using it and it work fine. it is just funny that they go back and forth between the software updates and one does not know what is going on.

The May 2007 software is working fine in my English windows XP SP2, but can not work in my Chinese windows XP SP2. I think that's why they pull it off.

Where did you see this?

I just looked and saw this version: E220Update_11.110.05.00.00(3.6M%20Vista).zip

This is on http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/mobile_data/downloads.jsp

I have logged on to see if there is any new updates on Huawei site:
http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736.

It seems that they have pulled the May 2007 version off the site.
Also it is a pain in the butt to try and contact them on their site. Also as mentioned on this forum, you can't find their software easily on their site. It is like a mine field.

You can try and speak to the Guys at there local office but they are clueless.
Iam also using the 27 May version and it is fine. There also use to be a March 2007 version and that was also working ok. I think it might have something to do with VISTA.

Why do Vodcam not make the Huawei E220 software available

I have an E220, as do a number of friends. We find that those who got theirs from MTN get the HMC dashboard (with full SMS functions etc) but those of us on Vodacom get VMC Lite ( a piece of ***).
We also find that when problems occur on Vodacom the typical answer from the people at "155" is --- remove hardware, uninstall, reboot !!
For those of us who are up to it, getting the HMC software and ditching VMC Lite is not a big deal, but others struggle with this and are stuck with VMC Lite.
Can Vodacom not publish something showing the "less computer literate" how to get HMC and ditch VMC Lite.
Surely distributing something with reduced functionality is not really good business?
Perhaps our resident Vodcacom rep can comment on this.

Regards

Do you now have the HMC dash or the latest VMC-lite? If not you can get them from here:-

IMO HMC is the beter Dashboard to use. It has more functions.

VMC-Lite
http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/mobile_data/downloads.jsp This is the latest version. 2.2.2.1. It has sms support.

You just download the software from the relevant site, unzip the program. Locate the relevant Setup file and start the process to re-flash the Modem software.

N/B
Please remember to first uninstall the previous version of VMC-Lite.
1) With the HMC software you have to create a profile first otherwise you won't be able to connect to the network. But this is very easy to do.
See instructions below.
HMC. Dowload the Latest one.
Open internet explorer and go to the following link
Step 1: www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736

Step 2: Download first file “filename_to_download.zip" (15521KB) ( Save file on hard drive under my documents )

Step 3: Go to drive f: (not 100% sure on the drive of the 3G modem) make a copy

of all the data on the drive & save to a newly created folder VMC_Lite. (Create Folder)

Step 4: Extract the software that u’ve downloaded under my documents & run

HOST20.11.06.04.00.03.exe (or what ever it might be called.)

Step 5: Run Installation

Step 6: Shutdown & Restart pc after software has been installed. (Unplug the 3G Modem)

Step 7: Plug Modem in after System has Restarted

Step 8: Open Mobile Connect (Icon on Desktop)

Step 9: Go to Settings -> Network connection Settings

Step 10: Click New, 3G, Number: *99***16# click Save -> Ok

Step 11: Click on connect
