So I'm due for an upgrade and I was looking at the Huawei Mate 9 as well as the Samsung S7 edge.

I noticed that Huawei's website states that it only has a 12 month warranty. Did this change from 24 months? My wife has a P9 lite that we bought last year. I checked on http://consumer.huawei.com/us/support/warranty-query/ it seems that it had a 24 month warranty.

This says 12 months: http://consumer.huawei.com/za/support/warranty-policy/index.htm
Period:
The warranty of the Product extends for a period of twelve(12) months for the Host unit, six (6) months for Battery and Charger, and three (3) months for Earphone from the date of purchase.

Samsung is 24 months.

LG is 24 months.

Not sure about Sony.

The Mate 9 has a Huawei Select Warranty which runs for 2 years. If you take out a phone on contract you normally get a warranty as long as the contract period.

Thanks. Do you perhaps know if the local version comes with dual sim? I'm thinking of getting one from Telkom.

On telkoms website they state 'Dual - Nano' but just double check when you go into the store

Telkom and Cell C dualsim.
Thanks. I confirmed with telkom. Now I need to choose between mate 9 and s7 edge.

The mate seems better in many respects but the s7 edge does have a lot going for it as well (e.g the camera seems to perform better).

I hate that Huawei used a proprietary solution for quick charging (supercharge) . I read you need to use their specific USB type c cable as well as their specific charger.

S7 edge supports Quick Charge as well as wireless quick charge out of the box.

Decisions, decisions.

Huawei have denied this.

I contacted them via email for confirmation and they responded with:
Thank you for contacting the Huawei Technical Help Desk.

We have looked into your inquiry, please kindly note that the Mate 9
is not covered under Huawei Select but rather it is covered for either
two free screen replacement or one mainboard replacement within the
3 months period after the purchase
.
Also, see here: https://mybroadband.co.za/news/smar...mium-smartphone-warranty-in-south-africa.html

I ended up buying Samsung instead.
