Huawei P40 launched in South Africa - Pricing and details

So when will they launch rooting? I like the Huawei specs but not releasing the codes is a serious issue. Is Xiaomi rootable?

Yes but who still root their phones? It was a thing a decade ago not anymore.
It's still plenty a thing, especially for those complaining about no GMS. And can extend a phone's lifespan a good deal once updates stop.

They say new cars lose 20% value once driven off, this HMS based phones lose 80%.

I was watching the launch on twitter mostly just to enter the competitions. Alas I didn't win anything. I don't think most of the people commenting on twitter understood the phone doesn't have GMS. And how much of a big deal that is.

Or, maybe it's just not a big deal.

Will be great if they can make this work.
Competition is always good.
The duopoly needs to be challenged.

Personally I wouldn't take the chance on Huaweo right now, luckily my handset should be good for at least another year.

Who's this new Celeb?
14:17 – We see a montage of various South African celebrities. Booby van Jaarsveld says those who don’t get the P40, are gonna miss out.

Great hardware (especially the camera) and decent price, but the software is the major issue for me (both their version of Android and the lack of GMS).

But more competition is always a good thing, so hope this does well and OnePlus learns from them to improve their cameras going forward.

Nice.

(If I were in the market for a new phone, it would've definitely been a consideration -especially because it doesn't have GMS.)

I am in the market for a new phone, I am on the P20 Pro currently and there is no way in h#ll that I am going to "give hms a go". While they didn't have a choice I am not going to even consider it till the ecosystem is stable - and by stable I mean that any app developer considers hms in equal terms to gms and ios ... so lets say posssibly 4 years from now.
