Huawei P50 Pro launched in SA

Huawei has launched its P50 Pro flagship smartphone in South Africa.

The local rollout comes after the company also made the smartphone available other international markets outside of China.

The P50 series was first launched exclusively in China in August 2021, the first of Huawei’s P-series flagships in a while that was not available elsewhere from the get-go.

Still no GMS.
Do the banking apps and so on work on these devices?

Unfortunately Huawei is no longer an option.
Thanks Trump :(
Well trump used the situation for personal gain like the vulture he is, but the repercussions are kinda valid.

Having a company owned by the Chinese government controlling every stage of communication is very risky.

Chinese Android devices still sell like hotcakes. Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo etc.

Yea, tho the risk is different. Huawei make every link in the 5g chain, that's the risk. You will never know if a device is phoning home if they control every link.

Can’t say I feel inclined to trust any of the Chinese brands. Got an iPhone for the first time last week and I’m convinced. Not going to miss Android tbh.

I've always liked both, but neither is going in a great direction imo. Android sells your data to the highest bidder and Apple harvests all your data for themselves. They're both ignoring your right to privacy.

The biggest difference for me is that I can install blokada and whatever else on my android to protect my privacy whereas with apple its protected by them because it belongs to them.
Its a bit of a sticky tape on the barn door kinda thing but I'm fully willing to take responsibility for my self and enjoy the freedom that comes with it. Apple is for old people and hipsters now days.(just kidding)

I fully agree with the chinese phones tho. I don't like any of them. Samsung is annoying with their bloatware, but at least I can remove it with a little effort. No chance of that with apple.

I might be interested depending on what exactly this bit means "free gifts valued at R8,998." and whether I can download/sideload my essential apps. Don't care whether or not my phone is phoning home to China. I am not plotting against the CCP! Anyway all phones are reporting back somewhere.

Privacy is one of those things that you don't miss until its gone.

Until they decide some or other aspect of your life is unacceptable, like religion, political belief, ethnicity, ect. Ask the uyghur.
but like I said, its tape on a barn door at this stage, so why bother?
