Huawei's powerful Mate 20 Pro - South African pricing

Dafuq is cell c smoking?
Or is that a maahhoooooooosive package?

Got to love South Africans, you're spending R600 on the phone repayments and only R99 on the actual contract, yet they'll moan about not getting enough data. Maybe if we all took a stand and started to not buy phones on contract they'd start to look at pricing it better? As in Europe, US and the UK the phone comes in at R14000 here it's R18999? WTF

R19000 prepaid vs R16780 (R699pm)
That's why we choose contracts.

Yeah the Telkom one actually is a good deal, the others eh. But still the price of something you'll replace every two years just gets to me, perhaps why I look at previous years flagships and buy it for R6k and use it for three years.

Agree on this. Poeple getting ripped a new hole with these insane prices. As you say, I waited, bought a brand new sealed in the box local mate 10 pro 6 months ago for R7k off bidorbuy. That is a reasonably price.

From Telkom you can get a Mate 10 Pro on contract for R250 / month. That still amazing considering its a IP68 rated phone with many of the same internals as the P20. Guess they just trying to get rid of stock.

It's R350 a month :-(

Well, if you look at Vodafone in UK and you see they offer a deal for about R600 a month for a package that includes a Mate 20 Pro, unlimited voice calls, and 30Gb data a month.... here we get zero minutes (free telkom to telkom does not count for me as no one I know uses telkom haha) and 1Gb data for the same price... kinda feels like we are getting shafted

19 grand? C'mon man, you're smoking your socks, that's extortion. Who needs a phone that costs so much anyway. Surely there has got to be a lot more meaningful things to waste money on.

Quality costs guys, buy a Samsung J5 or a 3310 if you can not afford premium products or you're a miser who'd rather be stuck with a substandard rubbish phone than an awesome phone.

I would rather drive a Mercedes Benz C Class than a Tata Indica - they both can drive me from PTA to home in Durban, but hey... It is a Merc and I deserve it because I work long hours etc. Same with phones... and other things... TVs, Laptops etc

A lot more quality, time, skill, research etc go into producing quality products...

Everyone works hard and long hours. Whether or not one 'deserves the best' is a matter of personal preference, affordability or choice. Those who choose not to spend these stupid prices on an expendable item display emotional maturity. Why don't you own a leer jet and fly from PTA to Durban, why settle on inferior mode of transport that statistically attracts the most deaths? Do you live in the penthouse suite in the Pearl of Umhlanga? If not, why settle for less-than-the-best? Just because someone can afford something, or is not a miser with his money, doesn't automatically render that thing well priced. The price is determined by how much people are prepared to pay fore the thing - if you prepared to pay R19k for a phone that will be out-of-premium in several months [your metric], good luck to you. I certainly won't, that doesn't mean I can't afford it or I am a miser. I'm just smarter than you, that's all.
