Brisbane Times: Queensland meteor? Reports of bang and flash in the sky
Reports of a large bang, a flash in the sky and shaking ground have kicked off speculation of a meteorite strike in central Queensland. Police confirmed they'd received multiple reports from about 8.30pm near Gladstone, about 400 kilometres north of Brisbane.

Sky News Aus report

Australian Geographic report with video
"HUNDREDS OF QUEENSLANDERS have reported seeing a bright flash followed by a loud boom, in what it looks like may have been a fiery meteor off the coast of Gladstone last night.
The 'bright light' – shown in the above CCTV footage captured on Boyne Island, 25km south of Gladstone just before 8.30pm – was reportedly seen as far south as Hervey Bay and as far north as Yeppoon."

If you're not interested in astrophysical events like meteorite strikes then why open this thread and post an inane mindless comment? Makes you come across like another know-it-all internet ignoramus with an opinion on everything you know nothing about. Get a life.

Good post, thread.

I was reading (in the Go! me thinks) that we are in for increased sightings of meteor flares (?) in October as we pass through the trail of a comet. Will see if I can find it later and post more. The downside is that they say best viewed after midnight and before 04h30, iirc.

Shame. Sorry you find life so hard. Eleven lines too much for you. How do you cope with a paragraph?

I have a huge issue with all of this abbreviated speak that is the norm these days. So do you mind explain to me what the H "tl;dr" is supposed to mean please?

I see the original poster decided he does actually have the time to make a decent post.

Thanks Arthur very interesting. One seems to forget that meteor showers occur all the time. Pity us in the cities cannot see them easily anymore.

There is another possibility that can only be cleared up if someone finds something at the impact site, or if a satellite operator or NORAD confirms it. It could have been a substantial piece of "space junk".

Too long, didn't read. Often used for walls of text, e.g. Paul Hjul ;)

Genisys defined it incorrectly and used it incorrectly.
