AIRDRIE, Alta. - A friend of an Alberta couple whose two-day-old baby was killed by the family's pet husky says the dog was probably trying to comfort the crying boy when it delivered one fatal bite to the child's delicate, tiny head.

Yeah right.

what tossers, dont lock the damn dog up cos it landed up killing a baby, that is just cruel. also why was it locked up in the basement in the first place, surely that is no place for a husky? they need huge yards.. it can only be expected for it to do something crazy if its locked up in a small yard, now it will also probably be killed for this... i really hate humans!

I think you need to give the parents a break. Easy to point the finger at them but tragedies happen, and they lost their baby.

yea look, i understand tragedies happen, but most of the stuff said can only be blamed on the parents. maybe I don't see the big picture but 90% of problems with dogs are because of the way the owner raised it or treated it. Like for example, locking the dog up in a basement when its a husky which requires large amounts of space. These dogs do sound pretty well taken care of but at the end of the day the husky will get the short end of the stick.

Female dogs are transformed after just one litter. My Husky female has never been aggressive but after one litter of puppies, she thinks it is her job to discipline all other puppies. Female dogs do this with their own puppies all the time, especially when it's time to wean them.

With other puppies, she now runs up to other dogs when we go for a walk, sniff out the puppies and if they're a bit too boisterous, she would grab it by the scruff of the neck. She is not an aggressive dog and has never bitten another dog or human but she is obsessed with puppies. Sometimes she licks them, other times she tries to discipline them.

Because most people misinterpret this behaviour, I keep her on the lead when there are other dogs around.

She has also developed this obsession with human female visitors. Somehow she seems to know where they are in their menstrual cycle. I have noticed that she behaves differently toward my GF just before, during and after menstruation.

Huskies are kind of useless as watch dogs. They are gentle, loyal and committed to the pack.
