Why do so many Indian ppl drive gtis and modify them? I see more indians driving gtis than anyone else

Because its a very good car, well built, good quality.
The car is a little bland so they modify it.
It holds its value very well so resale is always good. Thats why Indians have so much money.

Others would buy a crappy Ford because its not as bland as the GTi but then lose out big time on the resale value.

So rather change the looks on a bland looking car with good resale than buy a more extravagant looking car with poor resale value.

One's German, one's [-]schit[/-] French.

The only advantage the 308 has over the GTi is that criminals don't want it.

Same here, French and Indian cars... Stay away.

Don't know about the resale value, but parts are 75% more expensive, and not that available.

Two people I know have Citroen C1's and the clutches didn't last, and was expensive as hell, R8k for such a small car.

Three years means nothing. It's practically brand new.
If you'd driven it for 10 years or 300,000km without any hassles then it has some weight.

1st hand Franch cars are also rubbish IMO.
I know of several people who've purchased new French cars and none of them have anything good to say about the vehicles and local dealerships. One guy I know even badged his Citroen C4 with "POS" on the back and I understood why when he started listing all the problems (mechanical and electrical).

Even the South Koreans seem to build better quality vehicles than the French now.
German engineering is still tops.

Ive never had a days issue with my C2 which i got second hand at 240 000 KM.

Fuel consumption is rather bad though, ill get that checked out.

If you want proper German then VW ain't it.

My dad drove a 1986 Jetta CLX for 14-years. Not a day of trouble and he sold it with 400,000 km on the clock and it still had the original clutch. My mother has been driving Golfs for the past 17-years, neither of them have given any issues.

From what I've seen, rock solid cars.

I'm saying they are not rock solid, but you can get better. My old folks have had far less issues with the two C-Classes they had as opposed to the Audi 80, 2.1i Microbus and Jetta 3. So there are better German cars than VW.

In this case I would take the Pug.

There's your issue

To be fair it could be my driving style + AC, but other than that, no mechanical faults.

Let me clarify where i think a lot of people don't understand when you say stay away from French cars. It's not that French cars are inherently bad, often they a well built. The issue comes when stuff starts to break. You can't get someone to repair it properly and often it's a total rip-off to get it fixed.

So while it works you are set, the moment it stops working the circus while come to town.

So I've just taken a look at how slow the 308 GTI actually is. 8.3 seconds to 100? Pfft get out of here, that's not even a "lukewarm" hatch, let alone hot.

Good thing my dad is a mechanic.

So all your hatred is based on 20 year old cars?

It's hardly even the same company it was back then.

i currently drive a 308 GTI and have owned it for around 5 months and added just under 10k k on the clock. The car when i bought it was a demo model and had 5k km on the clock. I think the car is amazing, it handles well, has a decent amount of power, enough to challenge the g5 gti apparently however i haven't been able to test this. The interior is a really nice place to be as and the equipment you get as standard with the 308 gti far out ways the standard equipment you get with the g6 gti. Currently i'm averaging around 7.1 liters/100km so the consumption is good as well. With regards to the dealers i agree the only dealer i use now is the Fourways (Gauteng) dealer as they are the only ones that seem to know how to deal with customers.

The Peugeot manages to look way too boy racer inside somehow.

Think it's the white clocks maybe.

agree there is quite a lot of boy racer bit to the car. Also i agree, both cars that the OP mentioned are way over priced for the KM. when i brought my car it was R200k with 5k km and a motor plan that ends in 2017 with Peugeot. I would suggest doing more searching to find a car that has less mileage for the same price.
