Hi All

My 2010 Hyundai Getz is due for its 60 000km service and this will be the first time i have to pay, so i am kind off clueless as to what i can expect to pay.

Previously i would just take it to Hyundai Paarden Eiland, but that was when the vehicle still had a service plan.

what i want to know is:

1) can i only take it to Hyundai service centres?
2) what should i expect to pay?

Thanks in advance guys

Why not call them and ask?

You never get exact costs, which is frustrating, but they'll give you a roundabout figure.

As for going to the dealer or not, I can't really comment there. I've been screwed over by dealers and private peeps. So it makes no difference to me. Getting it serviced at a dealer does help with reselling apparently.

You could take it to anyone who knows how to service Hyundai vehicles. Make sure to get a stamp on your book though.

Where do you live? What are is convenient for you to have it serviced?

It shouldn't really be all that expensive. Probably on the region of R1500-R2000 but then I don't know what dealers charge.

I've been using Goch and Cooper in Brackenfell for my last few services and I have been very pleased because they are as good as an official dealership (if not better) for a reasonable price.

I say reasonable and not cheap with good reason. Cheap often comes with a backyard and no warranty.

Mine was R3k for the 60k service. I am normally quite happy with Hyundai services as long as you do not take it to the Menlyn Pretoria branch.
The 75k service only costed me R1k however so the 60k must be quite a big one.

I live in the Southern Suburbs. So having the service done privately through a reputable company does not mess with the FSH of the car when i decide to sell?

I thought dealers were the only persons/places that could stamp the book in order to keep the FSH status of the car.

If you guys can recommend reputable places that wont charge an arm and leg but who also provides great service, that would be appreciated.

Slightly off topic... How much does not having a stamp affect the selling price of your vehicle? I did my own 105 000km service since it worked out to a fraction of the cost.

Frankly if you are wanting to sell you car with less than 150k on the clock I would say important, otherwise not. I get my mitsubishi serviced at steves in montague gardens, after the car dealer quoted me 4500 ex labour for brake pads.

Yes I too have a Mitsubishi. Planning on keeping it for a while since it doesn't give me problems.

On most of my vehicles, I serviced then elsewhere (or myself) after the warranty expired. But I always keep a file of every experience or service costs and present that when selling the car. It does not only serve as a service history, but also a life history of the car. I never had a problem when selling any of my vehicles.

I have always done my own servicing, however, with the newer cars, it looks as if they need to visit a dealer at least once a year, or things can go wrong.
A customer of mine bought a Polo from me 2 years ago, and thought that they were very clever by saving money, and chose to use the "Guy down the road" for service and maintenance - the same guy who had worked on their 20 year old Conquest...........now they are bitching like hell because things are going wrong - things that would have been picked up had it been correctly serviced.

I actually feel nothing for them as they consciously chose the "cheap" route that is now costing them money!

The warranty expires January 2015. I suppose i will have to take it to the dealer. I just thought that perhaps i could save a few rands by taking it to a other authorized service centre.

Do all hyundai dealers charge a fixed fee?

Any dealer must display and quote you the fee for a particular, scheduled service. The amount quoted could vary depending on the location of the dealer, I've found some platteland dealers are a little cheaper on their labour costs.

Yup. Off to the dealer with you. And they have to quote you for any repairs/replacements outside of the normal service as said above

Dealer must do it - then re-read what I said before - don't save pennies now and get screwed down the line.

Just got a quote for the service but want to know if the quote seems right. Labour totals R1155 and the total including parts, labour and VAT comes to R3250. Is this a fair price? Seems a bit high
