Hi Guys,

I have the opportunity to buy a second hand I20 for R85000

Spec: I20 1.6 GLS 2012 Model
KMs: 54000

Its my sisters car. So instead of them trading it in for a new car, i have offered to purchase it. Do you think this is a wise decision or a mistake?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated..

Sounds like a solid plan to me, assuming 85k is around the trade in offer.

Depends on your sister, don't it?

Can she change gears, or will you need to put in a new clutch?

Does she respect her brakes, or are you looking at a full new set?

Also remember that because it's family you normally don't want to bring money into it. Once you buy the car it's not like you can go back to her with new problems you discover and ask for your money back.

It's a good price and the mileage is on-par, but it'll essentially come with no warranty so you'll be signing away your rights to buyer's remorse.

That must be the trade value, what's the market value? You basically take a swim on trading in your old car vs. selling privately, it just depends on how much the schlep is worth to you.

lol Buyers Remorse, hopefully i wont have to go through that again lol.

Thanks for the advice guys, she looked well after the car and its still in very good condition, i do think that its worth it, and yes R85K the trade in offer

The Market value currently sitting around R120000 - R130000

If your sister is happy with the deal you go for it and sell the car for R110,000 :D I had a 2010 i20 1.6 from brand new and flogged it year later. I'm keen to know if they've improved the gear ratios or power band in later models but it really was painful in traffic and you had to ring it's neck to try get anywhere near the supposed '90kw'. The service plan and warranty made it very cheap to maintain.

I drove both a 2014 1.2 i20 and 1.6 Accent. Very skittish on the freeway. Cheap plastic, but they had all the bells and whistles. Good city car.

Would never buy a Hyundai myself though.

Fixed in the 2013 facelifted model.
