I am capped for the first time

What a lark. It's the 23rd of the month and Im capped.
I have tried desperately to conserve my usage this month. I have not downloaded any service packs or large files. I have consistantly switched off my modem every night to conserve my usage. The only usage that was used more this month was my Nephew playing Counterstrike on either Saix or MWeb. Now I have been panalised for using too much bandwidth.

<b>TOTALS -- sent-829.913 MB -- received-2336.271 MB = 3166.184 MB--total</b>

1. I am to say the least an unhappy camper.
2. I will not buy another 3gigs on principle. As when I bought ADSL it was 3 gigs <b>"Received"</b> Usage that was to be monitored and you can see in my case that I should have 664MB left. More than enough to see me to the end of the month.
3. Telkom has upset another customer.
4. I will buy MyWireless if its feasible.
5. I post this complaint here as I have used Telkom's online complaint form and have yet to get a reply.
6. When capped, overseas sites tricle in slowly or time out. 2 of my favourite overseas sites wont come in at all. This capped speed is useless and <b>not even comparable to 56K.</b>
7. I have never abused my connection.
8. Telkom has abused a good paying customer.

Telkom had better catch a wake up. With this shoddy service they have headed their company in the wrong direction. Its the beginning of the end for them.

It's been the *total* cumulative bandwidth for a very long time now.

The cap is crazy. The excuses about it protecting us from peer-to-peer apps and bandwidth abusers is complete BS. Ever notice how Telkom still refers to Napster when referring to those 'evil' p2p apps? Napster is no more, it was shut down ages ago! The new incarnation - Napster 2, is now a legal, pay-for-subscription service. This just proves Telkom's ignorance on the subject.

The many perfectly legitimate ways to hit the cap in a month should prove to anyone that setting the cap at 3GB is in no way justified.

Yes I am aware of this. My point was merely to indicate what a bunch of thugs telkom are as when i took out ADSL, it was calculated on Recieved Usage Only. They changed this without consulting the users or compensating them. For Example. They could of said. "OK, we will in future be calculating your usages together and to compensate you for your loss we will increase the cap to 4 or 5 gigs... bla bla bla" And then to be truthfull about the move and explain the reason why they need to close the gap with Sent Usage. As average users dont send data besides mail etc. However if you play online games you send a lot of data. And in any event the people I know only play on local servers and dont use international bandwidth.

The situation with the 3 gig cap is rediculous and telkom's attitude in the matter is unsatisfactory. Even if I bought another 3 gigs, I wont use it up as it is too much for my needs. And I fail to see the logic of Mr White. If everyone buys another 3 gigs, then we will all be using the bandwidth more. And he said he is trying to prevent excessive usage. The only thing I get from his point is I have to dig deeper into my pocket. So an already expensive service just gets even more expensive.

But I suppose this is all old news for you guys. Im just venting my anger. Sorry. :)

And other people manage to download way over their cap, months in a row..! Somewhere there's a screw loose in Hellkom's machinery...

I would cancel and get a decent 56K modem and R7 call.. I dload over 6 gigs a month and if you have patience it works well [:D]

Good suggestion. [:D]
I just had ISDN, but wanted a upgrade. I was also fed up waiting for 7pm so I can use my R7 call plan.
But I see your point. This point is also why people are not giving up 56k or ISDN for ADSL.
They can download more in a month during call more on 56k than I can with ADSL. Its such a joke.

Well if Wireless works out I will downgrade my line back to analog so I can continue receiving faxes. [)]

BTTB, I can fully understand your frustrations. I feel them too. When I spoke to the Telkom employee before I ordered ADSL, one of the questions I asked was whether uploads were also counted towards the total. I was told, in no uncertain terms that they only counted the downloads, not uploads. My first month of ADSL told me otherwise. I was INCREDIBLY upset about this blatant lie. But the fact is, you can't win with Telkom, as they believe they are always right and their customers mean nothing to them. I would LOVE for Telkom to prove me wrong on this statement. But not in my lifetime.

Yes exactly my story aswell.

I too wish that telkom would just come right. We dont really need any more foreign companies like SBC. We need SA people devoted to SA's needs. Its that simple.

I am prepared to forgive Telkom if they just came clean. Its almost like a long term marriage where you have become so accustomed to one another, its hardly worth getting a divorce.
Probably a stupid example.

Hi all.

I have been monitoring my upload and download usage using Magitime (free at http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Network_and_Internet/Online_Timers/Magitime.html) I also switched on the daily email on the telkom site. Yesterday was the first day that they got it right. All in all I calculate telkom ows me 225 mb. I have lodged a complaint but as usual you get no response. I did get a complaint number but that is about it. Make the effort and monitor your online time yourself and log a complaint if it does not agree. That is the only way to ensure that we aren't also scre**d that way.

My usage compared to telkoms adsl tracker.

Thanks. I will ask my friend to download it on his 33k modem and email it to me. Either this or I will have to wait till the 1st of March when Im Uncapped. [:p]

I have a suggestion. If someone could give me Mr White's email address, I will ask him to download the program for me and forward it to my email address. [)]

Ahh. Thank you. I think this route will be less painful than trying to contact Mr White.

Wow, it came in at full speed too. [:)]

[:)]Hahaha,

I cant go to my overseas sites or download anything until the 1st March, so I spend my extra Internet time on MyADSL. You can hardly blame me. Its Telkom's fault. Had they rolled out an acceptable package with ADSL, would any of us be here.[:(]
