I want to run a program on a folder based on date and then 2 weeks later, I want to run the program again. It must then tell me what files and folders have been added since my last date and the new date.
Sounds easy, but try and find such a utility. Most utilities compare two folders and can sync them and so on. This is not what I want.

I have a lot of folders and people add new folders and files to them during a month period. I want this program to show me the files\folders that have been added since my last date and the current date that I specify. That's all. I don't want to sync or anything. I just want to know what has been added in the time frame that I specify.:erm:

Sorry if this sounds silly, but can't you sort the files in the folder by date added, then it will show the newest files on top, and in order of date they were placed there?

Can you tell us what sort of environment you need this deployed? Is this for personal or business use? If we had a more information to go on we could probably help find a suitable solution for you.

You can sort by date modified, date accessed, and date created, but how do you look at date added and how do you do it if you have to scan 300 folders?

What you are looking for is the equivalent of the unix command "find / -type f -mtime -30" ie show the files modified in the last 30 days I suppose you could always install cygwin and run that command

I just tried it on my pc, 500GB worth of pictures, movies and recording projects and and....Sorted by date, all worked fine. So in essence, use Windows 7.

A smart folder! (In OS X) In Windows 7 it's called a smart folder.

Basically it's like a saved search.

Sort by date will sort files that have been acessed also. I don't want that. I only want to know what files have been added in a certain time frame.

I use TreeSize pro at several customers to track file server usage. Its a great tool for the price: http://www.jam-software.com/treesize/

Treesize pro will show you all the files and space used. That is not what I want. I wan't to specify a start date and an end date and what I should get is a directory listing of all new added files between those two dates. Surely there must be a solution. I can't tweak/make changes to a production server.

Nope won't work. Take a file created on another computer and copy it to your computer. It retains the original creation date. If you then access and edit it the date will change but the files might not be accessed at all and just be put on the network for storage.

No I am no programmer.

Told you I could not find a solution!!

Trying really hard to help you here - its almost like you do not want to find a solution :D Treesize does work (you can run a scan and compare the two xml exports) - copying a file will change the create date - move will keep the create date but modify the accessed date. Anyway, use it, don't use it....

The double exclamation marks just show how frustrated I am that I can't find a utility. It is mindboggeling. Surely somebody somewhere has had a similar request?
