ok report back 15.30pm 17/01/20

the replacement tech was very polite...AND diffused my anger AS TO POOR performance of rain etc.
My old CPE equipment exchanged for brand new Outdoor CPE X unit
Device name: HUAWEI 5G Outdoor CPE
Model: N5368

And Q2 indoor unit
my new speeds are as follows:-

https://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za/result/11812507

Ping 17ms

Download 372.78Mbps

Upload 11.43Mbps

rain fixed.jpg

Complaint resolved by rain ........

tech was knowledgeable and very efficient

Why cant Rain treat ALL customers like this ALL the time....it is possible....

i will leave all threads up to show forum members when and how to go about resolving Rain Hardware and service problems

i now definately have the fastest internet in my complex even suburb....!! And believe it or not ..........its Rain (South Africa)
372mb/s down 11Mb/s up is fast enough for all my needs :) IMG-20200118-WA0014.jpg IMG-20200118-WA0012.jpg

Is your outdoor unit the CPE X?. My speeds have been poor since I signed up (within coverage area). The router is currently outside on the roof. A technician from Rain came and installed it there and couldn't improve the speeds by much. He then disappeared saying he has another appointment and never came back and that I would be contacted by them again. I received no call from them - its been 4 days. Stuck with these fluctuating slow speeds for 2 weeks now. Hopefully @rain_mobile can assist?

My 5G tower has been down since Yesterday but on another note I'm noticing a new Cell ID. So picking up 3 towers in total

Now I have to deal with sub 300Mbps speed..... Awww welll

Ohh and the optimizer is garbage. It's not real time it points you to the closest tower based on distance to closest 5G tower as defined by Rain. So it's pointing you to a tower that could be offline which is a problem. Would be nice if it was real time data and shows the tower as offline and suggest an alternative tower.

@Cyprio: Maybe you could try to boost your signal further with the lid from that Weber braai in your pic by holding the lid behind the CPE near the centre of the hemisphere and focussing the signal onto the CPE?

No im good with this speed my router divides it into quads of 50 Mbps each ......all good :) you can bandwidth allocate with the Huawei Q2 frontend router

Huawei Q2...even runs a mesh network ..2 minute setup... with 96 users

99.9 % of internet users don't need 5G.
Fibre and 4G/LTE is more than equate to download, stream movies in HD and play games.

5G is nothing more than hype and a rip-off.

Well 5G has lower latency than 4G and with the high frequency bands which 4G does not a standard for means they will go unused.

So 5G is there to bring more bandwidth to mobile industry.

As both 4G and 5G are mobile technologies, would rather have 5G over 4G anyday, and not sure if it is going to be the norm, but Rain's 5G caps are more fibre and ADSL like than 4G's horrid caps.
I am sure many can get away with 4G's typical 200GB maximum cap, but if you are a cord cutter relying on streaming services, and a PC game player where you HAVE to download new releases, 200GB is not going to cut it.

I would have fiber if it was available, and being in Gauteng I hardly live off the beaten track, but no fiber provider has plans to install in my area, and the roll out seems to have stalled anyway in others.

MTN and Vodacom will be getting in to the 5G game when the TV spectrum is freed up, and it is highly possible that 5G could be bigger than fiber when all is said and done.

I take it you have fiber where you are? Most of us do not. 5G is certainly not hype and has a place.

I'm facing my issue since last Thursday. No 4 or 5G signal. the router just says "no service". However at 6pm my internet comes back until about 11pm with disconnects inbetween then it goes to no service again. During the day I would get connection for like 30 seconds then it drops for a couple of minutes/hours. Always had good speeds 600 down/50 up.

Rain says there are no issues reported. They asked me to do the usual resets and router realocation with no luck. I gave them my address for their technicians and they told me that the router is not at the address. If i got no service how will they know? If they dont call me how do they know?

Its starting to become a joke.

rain can see exactly when your router is offline...try the usual calling them again

email works extremely well..support@rain.co.za

give them your customer number email as registered with them and your problem...help-desk has a bit of a breakdown..once you at support / network engineers -problems are quickly sorted

Haha Really? not so sure

If youre running IoT appliances and have Multiple users or handsets u 5G is the way forward as well as power gamers who download gigs of updates for their games etc try doing that over LTE
