I bought an iPhone 11 Pro – Here’s what you need to know

I bought an Apple iPhone 11 Pro today, the day it launched in South Africa.

Why? I am an Apple fanboy, mindless sheep, bla bla bla – whatever terms people who do not appreciate Apple’s solid craftsmanship and good software use.

And when I say “bought”, I mean upgraded my contract – because I was not keen on parting with R25,999 upfront.

Apple’s solid craftsmanship

Yeah, 'solid' craftsmanship..

This is the internet content I crave.

I ordered an iPhone 11 Pro Max from the other network, via a call to their 084145 number this morning (because who truly wants to go into a shopping centre in this day and age?). It too will be on a 24 month contract, renewing the 24 month contract I have for my iPhone X currently.

Cell C did, however, send an SMS with a pin for two-factor authentication to confirm I was, well, me. They also sent a text message confirming the new deal, as well as mailing me a copy of the new contract.

The call took less that ten minutes, with delivery next week... and that will do just fine for me

I eagerly await your “I took photos with an iPhone 11 Pro – Here’s what you need to know” piece.

I'm not sure why this device was worth spending any money on in your case.
  • It basically looks identical to your old phone
  • The processor was already fast enough to cruise through any app
  • The camera was already excellent
  • The firmware is identical
  • You lost force touch
  • If you're on a 2 year cycle again then you've skipped a proper design refresh coming next year
Dunno man, this sounds like really lousy value for money. Why not just get the new Apple Watch or an iPad Pro or something with the money rather. iStore offers amazing credit terms so you can still pay monthly for whatever you get.

Holy crap, that was a mouse?
How the hell are you supposed to use it while charging?

A real problem when you absolutely, positively have to use your mouse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year... with no time off for family, or sleeping, or eating, or going outside, or watching the game, or going out for drinks with your mates.

The real question people are not asking is which sauces he put on his schwarma.

Just give me real dual sim and dual apps and I'll come back.
Don't really care about the rest, all flagships are very simillar with photos.

The iPhone sold in Hong Kong is real dual SIM.

That said I prefer esim because of ally travels it's easy to swop over. However moving esim between phones can be a bit of a nightmare - good luck to those in SA trying that on Vodacom.

Only time I'd blow that much money on a phone is if it could replace my laptop/desktop, dock to screen keyboard mouse, do my work, do AAA gaming, media etc...

Until then you're just wasting money on something 1/4 of the price can do as well. Doesn't matter if it's Apple or Banana.

Exception being is if the hardware actually matters for a profession/hobby or something.

I got my 11 Pro on first wave launch day last week, also upgraded from X

Camera is worth the upgrade it's really good and the battery life. My X was two years old and battery was at 86% health but I needed to charge it twice a day.

The Pro sits at just under 80% for the same workload for me

So replace the battery? It wouldn't have cost R25k.

Your battery health was at 86% and you needed to charge it twice a day? Battery ain't faulty, you were either doing it wrong, or you are particularly heavy user.
