Not sure how to upgrade, I've formatted before, but darn it I have so many programs that I'd need to re install since I had this PC un-formatted for 3 years now. I'd rather upgrade if is possible.

AFAIK you won't be able to upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit OS. Most of your programs would require a new 64-bit version afterwards too.

Not true. 32bit applications will run fine on a 64bit Windows installation.

You cannot upgrade from 32bit to 64bit. You'll need to format and re-install.

32 bit apps work fine but they install to a different directory than usual (C:\Program Files (x86)). Dll's etc don't install to system32 either but SysWow64. Same with the registry.

So a reinstall is required.

Does that apply to all 32 bit stuffs? Like I have some weird programs installed like emulators for PS2 and GameCube etc.

Cool, is it better to get the 64 bit version though?

Complete reinstall sucks though, man idk where my Diablo 3 disk is anymore >.> Or my GW2 disk

Yip, your emulators should work perfectly fine.

64bit is better if you have more than 4GB of RAM. 32bit versions of windows cannot address more than 4GB of memory.

Sometimes you just got to do it. Your PC will also boot quicker and seem snappier, as there is no months or years off accumulated junk in the registry and system folders after a fresh re-install.

Just backup your saved games and important data before formatting !!!

For drivers you must use 64 bit drivers. If an app has a 64 bit option then use it but 32 bit apps work fine.

Forgive me for I am tired. Was thinking about drivers.

:p

Yeah, you'll need 64bit drivers - Windows comes a lot of drivers built in, but it's better to download the latest drivers for your peripherals from the manufacturers website.

Do you have a bootable Windows ISO file?

If so, you can burn directly with Daemon tools. You might have to set the boot priority in your BIOS to boot from the DVD drive if it does not want to boot from the disc.

Glad you came right :) It is always a mission to format and re-install all the programs! I work as a graphic designer and have of course more programs then most it seems! Always a mission :) but a fresh install always feels good :)
