:D

Hey macboys, I've joined the community. Decided to get a new laptop, so I went for a mac.

Firstly, WOW. This is what linux should be.

Couple of issues I have since I'm fairly new to this.

1. Office for mac is horrible, what the hell were they thinking? I got crossover and I can run the windows version of Office 2007. Is this the best solution? How does iWork compare?

2. How do I sync a windows mobile device? iSync does not work.

3. Where do I get hold of a copy of Corel Draw for Mac? Searching the net doesn't come up with much.

4. I named my computer 'test' and now for the life of me can not find out how to rename the computer. It keeps saying 'test's macbook' all over the place. I tried to reinstall the OS but when I boot with the disc I get a funny (similar to no smoking) logo, and it boots to OSX.

Anyway, that's all for now...

Thanks guys.

Which version of Office for Mac are you using? 2008 is generally a breeze for anyone who knows their way around Office. I helped convert a friend's skeptical wife, whom is a high level PA, when they bought an iMac for home. After convincing her to persist with the slightly different layout, she has no complaints, and believe me, she's good at complaining.

How does iWork compare? better

iWork is excellent for general use, I wouldn't agree on the whole though. MSOffice still comes up trumps for power.

Personally I've been using OpenOffice/NeoOffice for the last few years despite having hacked versions of both iWork and MSOffice at my disposal. It's free, legal, powerful and does the job.

I love iWork. Haven't given Openoffice/NeoOffice a proper shot yet, but I don't feel the need to.

iWork seems to work well for me. Does the job 100's.

I also have office 08, seems ok to, I am not really a power user so they all seem as good as the other.

One thing I do like is Entourage, much prefer it to Mail.

Office for Mac used to be a better than the Windows version but that all changed with the most recent release - its horrible now. Luckily iWork added Numbers so its really a good suite of apps. Keynote is also fantastic.

Keynote is like being able to sprinkle pixie dust on your presentations - if you like stuffing slides with bullets, stay away, otherwise enjoy.
