I guess the non swimmers see no problem with this report.
Bay sewage contamination shock
Bay sewage contamination shock
SHOCKING levels of raw sewage contamination in Nelson Mandela Bay‘s water supplies were revealed yesterday.
DA councillor Annette Lovemore told the final council meeting of the year that sewage was contaminating rivers that supply one of the dams serving the metro.
She said that after battling for several months, she had got the information from a secret report she had been given and had now resorted to using the Access to Public Information Act to get the truth.
Lovemore said many of the sewage works in towns in the catchment areas of the Kromme and Kouga rivers were either entirely or largely dysfunctional and raw sewage was being discharged into both rivers.
And Lovemore pointed to a report to the council‘s environment and health committee in October revealing only 10,4 per cent of water sampled was acceptable for drinking.
But municipal manager Graham Richards said the Churchill was the only metro-controlled dam which might be affected by upstream sewage discharge. Raw water samples taken immediately upstream did not show any contamination, he said.
