Small update - Amobia have lowered their topup fees and given some extra bandwidth to existing packages.

From their website...

More value added
Amobia gives 50% more bandwith - FREE - While slashing Broadband 1GB top-up prices from R69 to R49.

They really need to lower their installation cost somehow

The price on the installation can't really get lower, if you go check out prices for the hardware, the installation is actually almost free.

I'm assuming the hardware is similar to this http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/index.php?cPath=49_78

Hey Guys,

Very interested in this place.

Is anyone a wow gamer and currently using the 3meg uncapped service? Any idea of latency?

Thanks!

Sorry Amobia. @AndyC - where you based? Hows the reliability? Any billing issues?

Hi MDE,

I am in CPT, Plattelkoof and have been using Amobia for 2 years now, I have a capped business link (need low latency reliability for online trading) and an uncapped link for my everyday internet including P2P. I must say there service is outstanding. Have had technical issues like anybody else but they respond very quickly, on site intervention if needed is within 24 hours. Use to be on ADSL tried a lot on different provider, even went the line bonding route for a while but never got what I needed. The reporting and billing is spot on never had an issue on that side neither.

My only concern is on the uncapped link (mWeb behind it), the Skype can be an issue from time to time. I am receiving the video & audio fine but the my counter party on the other side complains that the audio cuts and not easy to have a proper conversation. Have been in contact with support many times and always trying to help, but since it is an intermittent issue I think it is more related to the contention of the link at the time. When it is like that I switch to my capped account and Skype works perfectly.

Hope this helps,

I live in Plattekloof too. I want to sign up with Amobia. need a question answered though. Are you restricted to Amobia as an ISP? or is it like Telkom where you can have a line and an ISP of choice. I want to pay for Amobia uncapped but there are times I need to use unshaped data and their costs are prohibitive.

Yes you are restricted to Amobia. Unfortunately there's no way round the unshaped part unless you downgrade the package for one of there capped accounts.

Hey guys,

Sorry to dig up an old thread...but telkom's "upgrades" have killed my adsl...and I'm so sick and tired of their BS, it's time to make a move.

Hope some of you could answer some questions for me :) :

(Location: Cape Town : Welgelegen)
1. How is Amobia treating you these days -now that you've had (some)more time with them?

2. Have any of you received abuse letters? (Would, say, 200GB on a 1mbps line be deemed "abuse" In your opinion?)

3. What's the max (guesstimate) that you've downloaded -and on what line connection/speed are you?

(This has been asked before, but I just want to make 110% sure on this one)
4. If I get a capped 1mbps connection can I use my current ISP to connect and use as uncapped? (Or will I only get the 1.5GB and once used, renders the line useless -until I top up?)

5.Same scenario but with an uncapped account? (Ie. Uncapped account with Amobia, but use own current ISP's login details?)

Thanks guys! Looking forward to your responses! (And "yes" I have emailed them, but they haven't replied yet, so I thought I'd ask here in the meantime ;) )

200gb on amobia might be pushing it :p

I would suggest getting capped, and maybe join CTWUG, for your "legal" downloads :p

Interesting, interesting.

"I don't always download 200GB...but when I do...I download 300GB!"
