Its been many years now. Started when I was 5 or 6. I was told by family that my dad was very much stricht and always going off on me, and they think thats why it started. I remember I was at a speech lady back then, but it didnt help. Now I'm 34, and really getting fedup with it. I really struggle every day. One gets over the embarresment, its just the frustration. I whish there was a pill for it.

I've heard about tha a few years ago, but some said it only helps in the beginning. After a while it comes back.

Are you going to listen to some, or do something to help yourself? Do research. Google. Search. Find out if it helps and if it doesn't. Speak to a doctor. Speak to a specialist. Are you going to complain that you need a pill or do something to stop the condition? You can change it.

Why don't you try a speech therapist now again?
Because it's expensive as %^&*%&%^ and it isn't a cure. You can only "apply rules" that forces you to manage it as best you can.
I've had it for almost 20 years and have tried pretty much everything, short of the hearing aid thing, which when told about it, was R20'000 (almost 10 years ago). I've got the problem where my brain is thinking miles ahead of what I can speak and as such I try to talk faster to up to keep up with my thoughts, and this only exacerbates the problem.

You might want to take a look at the NLP stuff. dj should be able to point you in the right direction. def cheaper than a therapist and a lot more practical than a few brandy's.

Also - try not to worry about it too much it just makes it worse. Easier said than done I know.

Just don't stress yourself about it, if it happens it happens.

"Easier said than done" doesn't have jack on it. There's a lot of one's social life that this completely and utterly kills off. "Not worrying about it" isn't even an option. It affects job performance as well.

OP I heard that a hypnotherapist might be helpful to cure it. Whether there's truth in that I don't know

Years ago I saw a tv program, it said there was a lag from when you tried to say the word to when you heard yorself saying.... In those days they were using a delay on a headset in tests to cure it.

Pretty sure you missed what I'm saying 100%. I'm saying that it has a self-reinforcing element to it. Knowing this you can make an effort to keep a positive mindset to mitigate this. I was not proposing "don't worry about it" as a solution in itself.

Eish then I don't know. My limited experience with stuttering is watching The King's Speech .

It must be absolutely horrible to have. I struggle with 'small talk' as it is and I can't even imagine what it must be like to not even be able to say words properly.
