Something I was told many years back.
because of the work i did, it was required of me from time to time to address groups of people. Most of these groups comprised highly educated people & very high level people in government - not only ours.
I tried to avoid these like the plague.

One day while trying to back out of one of these, my boss reminded me that the people were gathered specifically for the information I had for them - that reason only. And they were gathered because they did not have the information and relied upon me to give it to them.
That changed things for me.
Try keep that in mind when on the phone, or even in the butchery.
Remember, the customer is asking you a question as they acknowledge that you, not themselves, have the experience & knowledge to advise them.
This gives you the "higher ground" and advantage regards knowledge of the subject matter. Remember this when dealing with people asking you questions - it's them needing help and answers, not yourself - you already have the answers.

I have a business acquaintance who stuttered severely, a 10/10 on the severity scale, each and every time, for the duration of speaking to him. Then I spoke to him a year or two later, no stutter. No stutter whatsoever. Then a further year later, still no stutter. PM me if you like.

Jy weet dis asof ek daai post geskryf het. Dit is presies wat dit is. Ek rak regtig baie baie erg depressief, en dit word ook nog verder aangehelp deur baie erge twis tussen my en my pa, ons is vennote in die besigheid. En ja dit alles dra by.

The primary cause of my stuttering was anxiety, severe depression actually. Once I had conquered the depression the anxiety disappeared and with it 95% of my stutter. I must be honest though: my stutter was not 'bad'.

Why not just say how he solved it here for all to see? No need to post any personal details. Or is it top secret?

Just out of interest, I have noticed that there are different kinds of stuttering. You get the classic type where the person would say the first part of the sentence, and then at a certain word, stutter with that one word for example "I would like a pizza with ham, onion and mmmumumushroom, please". Then you get the type where after asking the person a question for example, he would be unable to start his reply. You can often hear that he then tries saying it a different way by choosing a different word to start with. Once the first word is out the rest of the sentence is fine. This also translates into portions of speech that are perfect and then suddenly it happens again. The second type I think is a lot worse for the person. Often you as listener know exactly what the person is trying to say and almost want to finish his sentence for him which is what I always wanted to know if it is making things worse by finishing sentences?

Its been many years now. Started when I was 5 or 6. I was told by family that my dad was very much strict and always going off on me, and they think that's why it started. I remember I was at a speech lady back then, but it didn't help. Now I'm 34, and really getting fed-up with it. I really struggle every day. One gets over the embarrassment, its just the frustration. I wish there was a pill for it.

I grew up in a home where my dad and eldest sister stuttered.

My dad still stutters but my sister (she stuttered since she could speak) does not.
It took years and years of speech therapy.

If think faster than you speak, try something like stress medication, eg valiums or something.

Go see a young modern psychiatrist, there could be neurological implications, and there might just be a pill for you in these modern days.

Best of luck.

Top secret? I've never asked him how since I've never needed to know. I can hardly post someone else's contact details publicly.

What I use is Asthavent pump and seems to stop my stuttering quickly and lasts for quite a while too.

Is cheap also and not to be confused with the Asthma pump.

What type of pump is it then, if its not an athsma pump?

Asthavent, sounds like it could be a generic of Atrovent.
Atrovent & Berotec are commonly used in nebulisers (for severe asthma)

most stuttering is caused by anxiety apparently , you could try a life coach

Also stuttered for most of my life and still do from time to time. Did speech therapy for 3 years where I learnt breathing exercises and learned to align my thoughts with my speech so I wouldn't say it's a complete waste of time.
Really is an anxiety issue and I'm very fluent when I speak to friends and family.

But like others suggested, try toastmasters..It will be painful at first but after a while you'll get over the stress of speaking in front of a crowd.

Googled it, and it actually is a athsma pump.

Not really its different one since you can take it as much as needed compared to the asthma pump version.

All it does is open your air passages to stop the spasms opposed to medicated asthma pumps according to my doctor who recommended it.

Maybe it will be helpful and I can talk to my animals and sing without stuttering, but its only when talking to people I do :p.

Sorry, I assumed you knew. Maybe ask him and post here for all to see, could possibly help others in future coming to the site as well.
