Inevitably the "good" people would use less and less, and as soon as power is up for long enough the "bad" people will use more and more, forcing the good to save more. Continue until you're stuck in the same place we are right now. Then you may have some ime free of load shedding, except the bad people will keep pressing the limit so the cycle will repeat except much faster I reckon

Feels like a temporary solution imo

Even worse, people get batteries and just ride through the few interruptions while people that can't afford it are stuck in the dark more often (due to the battery crowd pulling mega power to recharge)

What?

Why would it be my problem if another town overused their power capacity, and their power trips? That's their town's problem.
Load shedding is entirely dependent on Eskom and not on how much people are using. So nothing happens at/with Eskom there's no need for saving and if something does happen the first thing you will get is the lights going out so it becomes your problem even more.

You just admitted there is no incentive for piet pompies to save, now you are saying the opposite, that people have a reason to save.
"Oh, we are on stage 2? Too bad for them, it's not my turn on the schedule!"
No I said without a schedule everyone has a reason to save as they never know when their turn is coming up and the more they use the faster that will happen.

In my system, the only time their power gets cut, is when they themselves use too much.... and the only way to get it back on, is to immediately manage their usage.
Not some rotating schedule system where everyone gets punished, and whoever is not affected at that time don't give a damn.

My idea gives INCENTIVE to manage power (If Benoni doesn't, only they will be held responsible)
Once people start saving power efficiently, The power won't NEED to be cut. at all.
Or because the neighbour decided to leave the geyser on even though they aren't there or they just don't care because they have backup so they don't even see it go off. Look I am all for ideas to stop load shedding but I just don't see this as working correctly. Starting off with any load reducing would need to be done on an individual basis for it to be fair. I don't want to be the guy that sits without power every night because some a-holes in the block use as much as they want. That's the first complaint that will come of this if it's implemented.

That sounds like anarchy. Go beat up a neighbour because he is not "towing the line" allegedly.
Yes another reason to make our society more violent.

On the other side of the coin, I'm entitled to use as much as I want, as long as I pay for it... Especially on pre-paid.

We all are. Eskom should sort out their ****, cut the freeloaders and stop load shedding. That's the only solution to this. I'm not going to jump through hoops because they can't manage a country.

Why especially on prepaid? Post-paid pays 3 months deposit. I think prepaid is 2 months (not sure on this, I just know it is less than on credit)

Each city gets an allotted MW value. There is no more load shedding schedules. Nobody needs to sit with no power for 2.5 - 5 hours based on some time table.
Now, If the people of boksburg don't want to save power like the rest of us, and they go over their 80MW limit, their power gets cut. BOOM.
The power will switch back on in 15 minutes. They now have a chance to switch off excess appliances, lights, geysers, TVs, etc, etc. in this 15 minutes.

If, in 15 minutes, they have not switched off enough, the power will go off again - This time for 30 minutes. C'mon boksburg, get your act together now.
30 minutes later and nobody in boksburg is working together to save power? Now it will only try to come on in 1 hour. Still not enough? Now it will only check every 2 hours.... until they switch off enough.
I can almost guarantee you that within a week load shedding will be a thing of the past - simply because there will be no power in so many areas due to equipment failure that it will no longer be necessary.

As long as people have the above attitude, it will never work.

Idiots think they're spiting Eskom by wasting electricity. You're just hurting yourself at the end.

No , i disagree, they are doing a public service, bringing us closer to the precipice is an incentive to fix ****.
