I live in a little sliver of a suburb in Roodepoort called "Glen Dayson AH". it's a teeny little wedge that sits directly between Randpark Ridge and Weltevredenpark... both of which have fiber coverage.
Which means, I'm literally surrounded by fibre in every direction: but because my little "suburb" does not technically lie in either of these two well-known big suburbs... Nothing available from anyone. I live in a digital no-mans land... Fibre Bermuda Triangle.
It's a maddening situation. I had to watch them dig trenches up to about 200m away from my house and just stop in their tracks because technically there's an imaginary boundary line there (not even a road to separate me from Randpark Ridge directly behind me).
Trying to get onto any of those "signup" pages is futile because first off some don't even list this teeny little suburb as an option, and secondly the land-area is so tiny there's not enough people to compete with suburbs such as our direct neighbors. It's basically 1 street that needs to be dug and that's it, but sadly that's exactly why nobody even knows or cares about it.
There was _some kind_ of digging a while ago but I haven't heard anything fibre related about it for at least 6 months. I don't think we're on anyone's radar wrt. to this.
Does anybody out there know anything regarding this? Planned rollout? Actual rollout? Who dug said trenches?
My main problem is lightning, which since we're at the top of a hill has resulted in maaaannny dead routers in my house. I'd love connectivity that allowed me to leave my internet plugged in if I go out. I was hoping, but no love.
