Why didn't anyone tell me Linux is THIS awesome?

I recently installed Mint 9 on my PC @ home, since I hardly ever play games on it anymore (got an XBOX + XBL for that). And I'm loving it. For realz

I've been using Windows since forever and I wholeheartedly welcome change.

+ The "Run it from a USB/CD" feature also got me quite interested. Not to mention OpenSource? Also, Perl.

LINUX is addictive and I still love it. Has its moments but I just try and use Windows command line or even Powershell then all is forgiven.

I'll never ever forget the first time I installed Ubuntu on my notebook. Even had all my Windows driver DVDs with me! (dont ask why :) )

After the 20 minute install, Ubuntu had picked up all my hardware successfully and I could start working on my notebook. Simply unreal.

Yes! This blew my mind away, I had working Network, Internet, Sound and GFX (only had to update Nvidia drivers for special effects) all in about 15mins, installed it from a USB drive. I think its safe to say, this junkie has been converted! ;)

Installed Ubuntu on my PC. I was blown away, I thought I could use this instead of Windows! Then I tried Mac OS X one day, it's even better. Unfortunately the hardware support isn't as good as Linux for many systems but when it works, it works wonderfully.

I do find it a bit restrictive and dumbed down though. Maybe I just don't know how to use it properly. Things like specifying a location the archiver should use etc.

Yes Mac philosophy is simplicity above all, even if it means losing some power. Well 3rd party apps help with that.

Linux is still improving, I should give it another bash. Ubuntu is great but IMO their "GPL or else" philosophy can be silly - they don't include codecs by default, even for mp3's which I think is silly. That's why Mint is so brilliant. Also I had to reach for the console and look on forums just to change my resolution, so it's a bit geeky for mom still. But I'm a geek so yeah I love linux!

It's still a very humbling experience when you've got your new Linux distro running and tuned exactly the way you want it, to realize that thousands of people around the world gave up their personal time to give you a fast, secure, stable & feature-rich OS for free.

How many businesses would not have existed today if it wasn't for Linux, because the Mac & Windows licencing fees simply made it impossible to start your own small business. There would have been no Facebook, Twitter or YouTube. Or next time when you switch on your mobile phone, PS3, ADSL router, desktop, notebook, server, supercomputer, etc and remember that they're all running Linux.

Just think about that.

The thing with a linux install, it just gets better with time. Everyday you discover something new. I feel sorry for all those people that get force-fed Windows even when all they do is browse the internet and check e-mail. Poor bastards are getting ripped off.

I was in Windows a while back (after a 1 year absence) and couldn't even move simple little things on the taskbar where I want it. I felt trapped and had to get out before I smash my keyboard and sell my house. OpenSource/Linux is just way better.

And hawker, the only reason I keep Windows around is to remind me to appreciate all the work put into Ubuntu and all other flavours.

I remember switching to Ubuntu Linux about 3 years ago, because I was amazed at how far Linux had come from the CLI. And it seems like it just keeps getting better. I have a piece of proprietary software I have to use for my job and it absolutely must be run in Windows. You have no idea of how happy I am to reboot into Linux at the end of the day.

What's it called?

Ever tried running it in WINE or in Win on a VM?
