I know I am reviving an old threat, but hopefully this will help someone.

About 2 years ago I have been drinking Adco-dols like crazy. I have been on a packet of 100's around 4-6 days. Each week for months on end I bought my packet of 100 Adco-dols.

Late November, two years ago, I started getting seizures. I was admitted to hospital and there were suspicions that I had epilepsy. I was discharged without medication. (Well, not actually, as I kept drinking my Adco-dols for my headaches).

A month later I had another seizure, gone back to hospital and my doctor confirmed epilepsy. I was placed on Tegratol.

Now, I started drinking my Tegratols each morning and Adco-dols during the course of the day. The first year after my first seizure I had about 6 more seizures and they became worse. This, despite the fact that my Tegratol dosage was increased. Since April last year I had about two to three seizures each month.

In January this year I left Adco-dols as they gave me more headaches, which I thought was happening.

January was also the last month I had my last seizures. Since February up to now I had no more seizures, not even the aura I get before a seizure.

When I found this thread just now, I am 100% sure that Adco-dols had something to do with my seizures. For almost 6 months since I stopped using adco-dols I had no more seizures.

Since I left

Dear lord....it is a wonder you have a liver left!!!!!

Thanks though...interesting.

I heard that Tenston was pulled from the market as it was responsible for sending many people into cardiac failure. Scary the effects these kind of things can have on our bodies.

I have found that if i drink a panado/headache pill for a headache the one day the next day i still have a headache wheareas if i leave it the headache just goes away, so in a way i have stopped drinking pain pills unless i am REALLY sore.

This. Probably Gen Payne...10mg codeine.

If thats the case I would tread very carefully.

Originally called Syndol and Stopayne, now it is marketed under generic as Lenapain, Adco-dol, Genpayne and a host of other names.
There are variations on the formula, but the basic is paracetamol, codeine and caffeine.

Dude, dosage... on the pamphlet it clearly states "Do not exceed eight tablets per day". One packet of 100s should have lasted at least 12 Days. It means you were double dosing yourself? Jikes.
The pamphlet goes on to state that..
Symptoms of stimulation in adults include insomnia, nervousness, tachycardia, tremors, muscle twitching and convulsions.
Large doses may precipitate fits in epileptics.

Dude, best thing you did was to get off the stuff. Perhaps do some introspection as to why you started in the first place - to prevent any future recurrences.
I played around with paracetamol for a week or two - as it gave me a good feeling but since posting this thread I haven't continued the use of them as reading about the long term effects - damage is substantial.

Best cure for headaches is water - litres and litres of the stuff - flushes away the toxins.

well, you're lucky all you got was seizures.
it stresses me out when people don't read the inserts in their pill boxes.

And even then, they are not meant to be taken at that high level of dosage (4 grams per day) on a permanent basis.
Liver damage is bound to occur!

I agree with everyone, but at the time using the tablets, the last thing I thought about was the consequences. Believe me, when it works, you dont want to know about side-effects. I had to learn the hard way though, because of that.

If you suffer from frequent headaches, try alternating between different types of treatment.
This will protect your liver from further harm and prevent the possibility of addiction or "rebound headaches"

For headache treatment and migraines you can alternate between Aspirin, Paracetamol (Acetaminophen), Ibuprofen, and other treatments like Migril, dixarit, Beta Blockers (which have the effect of easing the blood vessels) and muscle relaxants such as Naproxen/Nafasol which can also be obtained fairly easily on doctor's prescription.

Also consider asking your doctor or neurologist to put you on a prophylactic treatment of...

1) Pur-Bloka (a beta blocker to provide the vaso-dilating action, 10 mg taken three times a day)
2) Trepilene (a mild sedative taken at night to help you sleep and relax)
3) Nafasol (Naproxen - a muscle relaxant - taken one a day in the morning).

haha, no... but you can tell I have used quite a few scripts in my life, can't you?

Another piece of advice is to go and see both a reputable Chiropractor and Physiotherapist and talk over your conditions with them.
They might be able to either give you significant relief or at least temporary relief.

Paracetamol can really knock people out. Its not a weak drug as most people think, just because its sold everywhere that doesnt require a doctor to prescribe it.

I also love paracetamol, it fixes any headache.

Personally I use the melts (foul tasting) but fast acting
