Hey guys!

I have been working on this website Buck Cheap where we track the price of products from many retailers like Checkers Sixty60, Woolworths, Takealot, Makro, Pick n Pay asap, Spar2u, Dis-Chem, etc.

You can see the price history of products and set alerts when the price drops.

There is also a chrome extension where you can view the price of items on the website you're on (only works on Takealot, Woolworths and Makro atm).

Please give it a try and let me know what you think .

P.S Some stores are turned off on the website... like Takealot because they have so many products it ruins our site... but the chrome extension works well with them! Once I have figured out how to categorize all the products correctly I'll turn on Takealot and Makro for the home page...

Suggestion: shopping list or watch list.

Was about to say exactly this.

Without a wish list I tend to forget about price trackers and tend not to come back to them.

Retailers I use most that appear to be missing are Le Creuset and Yuppiechef.

Also no idea how much your backend works but it may be a good idea to have user press enter instead of starting as search query upon text entry.
Why do you think the one is better than the other?

Purely because as your user base grows you’ll be having massive loads on your database whereas forcing someone to press enter means there will he only one.

Scaling is my primary concern. What works now may fall over very quickly when the user-base triples.

Or simply cost you more money to run.

Yeah true... definitely on the todo list but I don't have a lot of traffic right now. :)

@Indomitable also created something at some stage but didn't finish it.

Good to see all these trackers if you can continue to afford the server space.

It depends on the store! Most are every hour or so, the bigger stores like makro or takealot are only a few times a day.
Thank you for the reply.

Reason why I asked is that some item prices on your website is different than on retailer app.

The example I searched was 2l Clover fresh milk. On your website, selecting Pick' Pay ASAP as the store and Sort by as Recently updated gives a current price of R26,99.

When I check the same item on the Pick n Pay ASAP app it gives a price of R32,99.

Does your site show the current prices as well ?

Well done on the website, it may come in handy in the future.
