I need a car...Citi golf or not?

I have R75000 cash. I was looking at a Citi Golf (might still get one) but read a lot of people here say it's unsafe and is the same model since 19foetsack. Regardless of safety I think it looks good, especially the black or charcoal, but would just like to know what are other peoples suggestions or input for this price range.

I saw a Polo Playa 1.4i Trendline for about R80000 but it had like 150000 KM's on the clock.

So I do I sacrifice for a higher mileage and older year for something other that a Citi Golf?

PS: Please no fanboi's or hater fags. Just want some honest suggestions and opinions...

Thanks :D

Anything but a ShyttiGolf for R75k...

a ShyttiGolf is worth at MOST R10k.

I'm no hater/fanboi... just for R75k there are MANY better vehicles out there. I recently sold my 2001 Golf 4 2.0 Highline for R73k and it had 110k on the clock.

the only thing is that when buying a citi, you will have no hassles with maintenance, expensive parts, etc...

go and test drive both and see what you like...

You may have hassles with insurance though.

I'm pretty sure Santam refuse to insure ShyttiGolfs anymore.

I am driving a citi and can say nothing bad about the car. I would however take the cash and put it down as a serious deposit another car. You can get real value for R150 000 and brand new!

Insurance is costing me almost R900 p/m.

High Risk, Unsafe

I'd avoid the Citi Golf, it's just not safe.
Toyota discontinued the Tazz for safety reasons, it's about time VW did the same with the Citi. You don't want to be involved in an accident when inside one of those, protected by all 2 millimetres of its sheet metal frame.

Think about the insurance too. They're very high risk cars, you'll end up paying a lot more than you bargained for. Plus you really don't want to go through getting your car stolen.

You'll probably find almost any B segment car second hand for 75k, Fiesta, Getz, Corsa (not the Lite), Polo etc..

I bought my 2009 new shape Fiesta for R130 000. Put down about 80k deposit and am paying R1200 a month and R500 for insurance at Absadirect and that includes my house content.

I can recommend the Fiesta without a doubt. Dual airbags,ABS,EBD,electric windows, mirrors the list goes on.

And I'm pretty sure my car is still comprehensively insured.

Mike, instead of a Citi, have a look at a Golf/Jetta 4 TDI if you do a lot of driving. Maintenance might be a bit more expensive than the Citi, but they are lovely cars.

R75k cash, you can do so much better than a Golfie.

Try Autotrader or I could make a call and see what my friend has available.

Seriously, with that amount of cash, there are plenty of more sensible and enojoyable options to be considered.

Auctions, dying cancer patients, immigrating families, take your time with it and you'll certainly get your bang for buck.

It's a buyers market out there.

Cars can be bought for below trade if you're at the right place, at the right time.

How many more threads like this are we going to see?

We need a sticky that states people should not buy golf and the reasons listed.

Its a lekker car for looking like a moron....

If you pimp a citigolf it very clearly shows you have no taste in motor vehicles.

CitiGolfs are good for one thing and one thing only nowadays... and thats track racing.
