So ive taken some of your guys suggestion, namely the Etios, and came up with what i hope will be a winner.....

2014 Toyota Etios Cross​


Any concluding thoughts, ideas, critique?
Get the one with the lowest mileage and the most comprehensive service history.

Etios Cross is just horrid.....
Personal opinion of course, They ruined what is a very very very average car by sticking plastic crap on the sides and rebranding it.

Might just need to replace the indicators as they usually don't work.

What is wrong with German engineering?

Your sample size of 1 is incomplete in the extreme.

I've had 4 BMWs in my life, 4 VWs, 2 Opels and a Mercedes. None of them have had any stupid engineering issues other than those I've introduced through modification or poor maintenance.

The Japanese cars I've had have had more weird engineering issues actually.

That 2012 320D motor is rock solid, the gearbox is more than likely rock solid as well (not much experience with that specific box)

Thanks Terence! Makes sense. Any idea where one can sort out the gear linkages? any shop that specialises in that that i can google?
Where are you situated? I can try find out some decent places who wont try rip you off

Hyundai Accent. Part Cheap Cheap from Korean Parts Store.

I can second this.
Smoothest changes I've had were in an Accent (post-2012 model).
Might stretch your budget though.

hmmm...kinda looks like it could be a students car. not really what im looking for in terms of looks. but thanks! im sure your recommendation has helped someone to look into it

OK thanks, ive posted on the Opel owners club for some suggestions on mechanics who wont rip you off, as soon as I get a response, il reply on here. Im from Joburg so got no contacts that side of the world.
