You'll have to be a little bit more specific about this. To help you, we'll need to know at least which operating system you are using.
Since most people seem to be using some form of it these days, I will assume you are using Windows XP.
If you aren't, I highly recommend you phone your local computer store and have on of their technicians come out and set it up for your. Telkom's PPPoE client is useless, for any Windows other than Windows XP, you need a third party PPPoE client installed.
If you are using some sort of UNIX or "Windows emulated on Linux" kind of operating system, you should not be asking this question, and you should have bought the ethernet modem. [

]
Windows XP instructions follow:
First thing, you want to uninstall the Telkom PPPoE client. It's bad software and not needed anyway, Windows XP has a built in PPPoE client.
Next, uninstall the modem:
Right click "My Computer"
Chose "properties"
Click the "Hardware" tab.
Click "Device Manager"
Locate the modem, right click on it and click "Uninstall"
Next, install the Marconi drivers, again.
During installation, you might be asked some questions. If you are asked any of the questions listed below, these are the answers you want:
Encapsulation: 1483 Bridged IP LLC (or just Bridged LLC)
VPI: 8
VCI: 35
WAN/LAN mode: LAN mode
You might not be asked all of these, if not. don't worry.
Once this is done, right click on "My Network Places" and click "Properties"
Under "LAN or High Speed Internet" you should now see one or two connections. If your system has an ethernet port (most do), this will be listed as "Local Area Connection", your modem should be listed as "Local Area Connection 2", or if your system has no network adaptor, your modem will be the only connection visible. If you don't see any connections, worry.
Do not close the "My Network Places" window, keep it int he background.
If the modem is listed, make sure it has attained synchronisation with the DSLAM. There should be a new icon in the system tray (right of the task bar, next to the click) that will look like two lights or two arrows. Hover your mouse over these, if you get a message like "startup-training" or "startup-handshake", wait a while. If it does not go away, you don't have sync, phone Telkom.
If it does sync, it should display "DATA" or "SHOWTIME".
If no message is displayed, double click the icons, you should get a status window where the messages will be displayed.
Go back to the "My Network Places" window (which you should have left open)
Now, to the left of the window, click "create a new connection."
Select "connect to the internet."
Select "Broad band internet connection."
Next select "Broadband internet connection that requires me to log in with a username and password." This tells Windows to establish a connection using its built-in PPPoE client.
Follow the instructions and enter your username and password where needed. If you are asked if you want to make the new connection your "Default Connection", answer yes. Keep clicking OK and eventually click "Finish"
Once all this is done, you should see another connection in the "My Network Places" window. This is your ADSL connection. Double click and it should go up within a few seconds.
If it doesn't, double check that you have sync, and that you have the right username and password.
Tip, in many cases the first-line idiot at Telkom support will give you the username in the wrong format.
The correct format is telkomdslNNNNN@dsl512telkomsa.net
The NNNNN represents some random numbers that will be assigned to you. If they give you a username like telkomdsl010101@telkomsa.net, or @dsltelkomsa.net, just substitute dsl512telkomsa.net... this has happened to many people.
If none of this helps, call Telkom.

Sorry, I did have the VCI setting mistyped in the original post. It is indeed 35 and not 3. Thanks Solar.
