Seems that you are looking for redundancy but having two ADSL lines does not necessarily provide that if the two lines have a common mode of failure. This approach will only work if the ADSL lines are routed from two different exchanges. This said, sometimes an area serving various exchanges are affected, again resulting in a common mode of failure.

Best approach will be to have one ADSL line and an independent backup service (3G, wireless ISP etc). Or opt for a business ADSL line or fiber product with an SLA that will have you online, in case of a failure, after a contractual period.

Just get a load balancer and plug the two adsl routers into it. It then becomes your gateway.

You need a proper firewall solution.

Look at maybe getting a Mikrotik router which will be an all in one solution. If you have an old PC lying around you could also turn that into a router with pfSense which can do WAN load balancing and failover.

Rather get those adsl routers with 3g fail over. Having another line for failover is a bit silly because most of the time if there is an issue its going to be with your exchange. Having 100 adsl lines wont make a difference.

99% of the time this is true. Only really useful relying on a backup dsl line if they run off different ISP accounts and there happens to be an issue with one ISP.

Using backup 3G is very much recommended.

This^ I have *spit* satellite failover which ensures that copper theft etc wont be a problem.

Well, you can sort off, obvious choice would not be 2 DSL lines from the same exchange.

Get a firewall that can manage these types of switch-overs (Sonicwall, but quite expensive for example), one normal DSL acting as yours mains, and another(failover), which is actually a Wireless internet service provider connecting to a tower with a DSL\fibre connection or bandwidth pool (different exchange) such as Neotel, Sword Systems, etc.

I set up a pfSense box at our office. It's free and has awesome features.

I load balance between our two ADSL lines and if ADSL fails it fails over to 3G.

Hi All

Thank you for all the responses, 1) yes we do cloud and that side is sorted with our servers in data centres.

But, What I need is a solution for our customers, Most of the time on site they only have 1 ADSL line with router from ISP. I need to make sure that Cisco router stay live with the fixed IP's seeing that they do Hosting and transactions, most off the times the lines in Waterkloof ridge is so slow that even 5 meg Business line is to slow.

I need backup should the ADSL line fail, and I would like to setup off site backup's on 1 ADSL line and the rest of company on the second one.If it can do load Balancing so much better.

Hi There,
I would approach one of the network provider's business division and get them to suggest a solution for you.
They will be able to provide you with an SLA as well as hardware configurations.
You can then pick and choose what is going to fit with the budget. You can also ensure that it fits the SLA that you are providing your clients!!

Regards

Tim
