Hi forumites,

I have this Huawei IDEOS S7 tablet, it is locked to Vodacom and I can't use any network I want. Is it possible to unlock it? If so, how?

I can't enjoy the best internet on prepaid because of expensive data from Vodacom. I'd like to take advantage of 8ta's 2GB + 1GB promo before it ends in March. Please help, I am desperate.

The tablet is mine, forget constitution! It's my property, I can do whatever I want.

First find the law then see if it specifies cellphones of covers any device.

Well, nobody locks modems here, even though the same modems are locked elsewhere.

So it is wider than just cellphones. Wouldn't know about tablets.

Well nobody does it but that doesn't mean they're legally prohibited from doing so. I'm not saying there isn't a law detailing with network locked devices, I just haven't seen it.

The two South African cellular networks, vodacom and MTN have pledged to end the practice of SIM locking their handsets. vodacom currently charges US$27 to unlock a PrePay handset and MTN charges US$62 to unlock both their PrePay and contract phones. However, both networks are waiting for legislation from the telecoms regulator, Icasa that would bind both the existing networks, and the new entrant Cell-C when it begins service. If the SIM locking is banned, then handset subsidies are also likely to be phased out, leading to a rise in cell phone handset prices and a probable increase in the local grey market for imported handsets. vodacom has previously supplied unlocked handsets, but reversed its policy when MTN did not follow suit.

Ok, this is old, so I don't know whether this has been formalised.

Does it give you an error. Maybe its just the APN setup?
