Actually Mlungu is a derogatory word for whites. Although many black people like to claim that it just means white person.

I never knew that(offensive part), I don't know Zulu, if there is anyone there who speak Zulu, please I need to know what term do you use to refer to a whiteman.

In Setswana a white man is referred to as Lekgowa or Mosweu. both terms are not derogatory, though the former I don't know is origin, the latter means "He who is white". Jeez  I'm far behind with this country's lingo, I never knew that there is a derogatory term for Whites.

When will South African stop using race cards, I mean this is getting old now, if you go to YouTube, each and very video that's South African you find race beefs. for F U C K sake, can we end this?

black people like to claim that it just means white person. I can assure you many think exactly that, they would be lost at words if they knew that it offensive...

are you implying then that being labelled a racist is somehow less derogatory??
Please explain!
Why not criminal, it goes against everything our constitution stands for!
Why then is the 'K' word criminal?

They are both disparaging terms used specifically to belittle/undermine/discredit/etc/etc.

The Ball is in Zille's hands, though not criminal to label someone "Racist", Zille can sue JM for defamation of character, force him to make a public apology and bar him from ever defaming her in the future.

There are no double standards, I believe it is the same in the states as with the "N" word. We have a sound judicial system in SA, if Zille is offended then she can take the necessary steps.

i am not zulu,
but from what i have heard the word mlungu is good (derived from lunga - meaning good). the word is derived from an earlier unflattering word when people where afraid of the fact that white people could kill from what black people saw as impossible distances with their guns. they believed this ability could be attribured to witchcraft which is where the original zulu name for white people came from.
