Destra cuts off iBurst reseller

IBURST wireless internet reseller GeckoNet has pulled the shutters on its operation, leaving customers out in the cold and at least one of its suppliers out of pocket.

Personal Broadband Australia wholesaler Destra, which supplied the iBurst service to GeckoNet, has confirmed that it disconnected the micro-ISP for failing to pay its bills.
"We have a policy of disconnecting people who don't pay, which is the same policy that most other businesses in Australia use. At the same time, we do sympathise with their customers," Destra chief executive Domenic Carosa said.

Australian IT understands that GeckoNet accrued debts with Destra of around $30,000 before the wholesaler pulled the plug on its operations.

Industry sources alleged that GeckoNet had also run up debts with two other iBurst wholesalers: United IP and Platform Networks.

""One customer who had $400 for an iBurst wireless card said that upstream suppliers had locked the device in order to pressure GeckoNet into paying its bill.
