Well today ive noticed it again and i`m 100% shure that they stilling our bandwidth or i would rather say they stilling it but in a smart way by setting their bandwidth manager to do so...
Today afternoon about 5 oclock ive checked on Iburst Help Desk link for bandwidht usage on my username and i had 175MB left of my 3GB...
Usage on my DU metter since 01.06.05 was: Downloaded 2.23 GB/Uploaded: 243.15 MB/ Both Directions : 2.47 GB....

Now is 11 oclock evening and i have 0 MB left droped to unacceptable useless 30kbps and on my DUmeter i have total usage of 2.53GB...so where are my 470MB i have no clue....
Last month it happened the same and i had a difference about 400MB so that means that either DUmeter is not correct which i dont think so or they stilling bandwidth from all of us....
Please people check this and put some effort to calculate how much bandwidth u have difference...between their bandwidth monitor and ur bandwidth monitor programs...

Thanks

and in other breaking news, osama bin laden is not a nice man!

Yepp its not accurate but fairly hard to monitor because its not dynamic, what can you do, they'll get there eventually.

stealing obviously, yes makedon i've had the same before man, i downloaded a 2.2gb file and it said i used 2.6GB

not much we can do I don't think, i wonder what they use to monitor bandwith because alot of bandwith monitoring apps I use on servers have limitations, even the ones that count at the switch. If they use software they created in house or got created for them then.... we're screwed

Just a thought

Doesn't the difference come in with TCP header info that gets prepended to each packet?

AFAIK Luis developed everything inhouse, but that's merely what I've been told, it would be nice if WBS decided to sort out all the technical problems, and get more base-stations up where contention makes the service unusable...methinks WBS are happy to take our money & never sort any of the problems out...

Some advice to people thinking of getting iBurst - don't get it directly from WBS - rather go through a reputable reseller, and any problems you experience with the service - make them the reseller's problems - don't even bother calling up WBS - ever.

the problem is most likely in the lost packets ... they count all packets, but obviously in your case about 20% are lost. It is just more convenient for them to charge you for something they were unable to deliver. Bunch of incompetent idiots, should be croping bananas!

I concur. I don't have iBurst at home, only at the office. So I don't have an always on connection.

This morning when logging on to iBurst, I had the following:

Dear iBurst Subscriber,

Your #### ##### account usage reflects the following:

Uploaded: 31.10MB
Downloaded: 1.09GB
Combined Total: 1.12GB

Remaining: 1.88GB

Should you reach the 3.00GB cap on the combined total, you will be redirected to a throttled service.

Regards,
WBS Helpdesk

After I logged in and worked some time the following under iBurst Status window:

Status: Connected (no disconnections)
Duration 03:08:37
Speed: 1.0 Mbps
Bytes Sent: 24,325,942
Bytes Received: 1,047,014,251

When I got here I was capped/throttled. A quick calculation shows that I have still something like 800Mb left before getting capped. I agree that this is theft, pure and simple.

One thing for sure, until there are such a ridiculous caps of 1-9 GB and extra GB cost about R169 or something ridiculous like that, there will always be a problems! Some of them will be due to WBS either stealing, or just not knowing how to count, other will be due to inexperienced users not realising that leaving few open programs can chew their monthly allowance for few hours on such fast connection, or some virus/troyan etc. upload few gigs in the background ...

So how do you solve the problem? I guess you can't, unfortunatelly.

I received my MTN statement for my cell phone and there is an extra page reflecting my GPRS usage for the month, with per byte billing. I have few connections that cost me 1 cent each :) very cool! Maybe if WBS doesn't plan to make their prices more down to earth, maybe they should take MTN for an example and provide you with such precise statement for each byte you used!

Smoothwall?

For those people with SWE2 (with the Bandview pack installed): how do the stats compare with those supplied by WBS?

I would like to check my usage against their bandwidth meter as well, does anybody have a suggestion of bandwidth monitoring software for linux, preferably something that will work well with Ubuntu

I used ntop for a while on FC3, but the resource requirements were very high and I never got round to figure out the configuration so that measurements would be persistent over restarts. Then setup a Smoothwall box anyway with a few addons.

depends where you wanna count it, if you count at the switch, which would be more accurate then mrtg
