Before being stoned with harsh technical words... I know its a stupid question.

Why is it always when/after it rains, I can't connect?
Called the Helpdisk...and I was simply told the base station is flooded!

I'm using the Jabulani Water tower station in Soweto. It was out for the past 3 days.

With the replies I got, my conclusion is: The basestation definately has a problem.
Maybe WBS should look into it b4 the testing period is over (regardless of how many iBursters they have in Soweto).

Soweto was definately flooded sometime last week - electrical work was needed on site before base station could be switched on again. I'll have to check with radio guys if this has been completely resolved.

WBS can't implement proper network management either. Swimming is out of the question.

Funny thing, that. I thought I was the only one experiencing this.

BTW, I'm also connecting from Midrand...

Seems to be swimming now!

I don't kow whether to give props to WBS or maybe switching from USB to ethernet helped me to be connected throughtout the rain. I've been happily surfing away throughtout this rain from last nite to this morning.

Probably jinxed now... :D

Lets wait and see.

Rain should not effect your connection at all unless rain for some strange reason effects the basestation. This should not happen.

Weel there is either something f#&%@# on the basestation or my signal is lost somewere in the rain. Paying R 600 a month to max out on 35 kb/s, note bits! :( I don't know. Something needs to be done about this.

It looks like a MW clone. Took me 15 minutes just to post this!

Stepper, GPRS/EDGE/3G? - basically what's the coverage like in Soweto? Vodacom as well if you've flirted with both :D.
I can safely say its GPRS only on MTN (I might be wrong, but Telkom Speed test say its 48 kbps), dunno about Vodacom haven't dabbled with them as yet.
