Sign up with GoogleHey, I live in Dainfern & assume I connect via the Indaba Hotel Tower, i've used iBurst on & off for the last year or so, and have always had between 80-100% signal strength.
I have a work sponsored account on which I've used both Ethernet & PCMCIA modems. Used the connection primarily for basic browsing etc. A couple of 100mb max DL's. Hardly used it to be honest.
If I remember correctly, last year with one or two DL's simultaneously I would reach a combined total of around 100k no problem. This was with the UTD.
I've had the PCMCIA for a few months now, and this year have noticed a serious performance drop. Like I said before I've hardly used this connection, so I can't remember exactly what it was like last year with the PCMCIA but regardless, something is definately not kosher now.
I've got the latest drivers, flashed the modem with latest firmware, just to make sure it wasn't something stupid but no improvement.
Tried all online speed tests and these are the general results:
* Download time: 28.556 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 142.9 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 17.5 (kiloBytes/second)
How crap is that? My signal strength is at 80% right now. The line speed is pretty much what I get for my DL's at most. Not capped either, current bandwidth used is about 1.2GB for Jan.
Latency to JHB game servers is shocking, and overall i'm bummed because I actually wanna start making use of this free account.
Is something up with the towers? Or is this Contention Ratio bollocks killing me? Feeling seriously throttled here.
Just wanna know if I'm all alone here, will call WBS or whoever to complain for sure.
