Any Iburst users want to comment on this?

hope things start to stabilise, will keep you posted on what happens after firmware upgrade.
Well I have just installed the firmware update, so far no comment on whether it "feels" better or has made any difference whatsoever.

The firmware update improves signal reliability, and reduces disconnections in certain situations during base station handover.

I've also been having a weird problem with the UTD hanging on occasion... This seems to have been fixed by the firmware update ... probably related to the tower hand-off anakin mentioned previously.

Anakin, thanks for the email, I got mine this pm.

Not sure that I'm seeing an improvement with the new firmware though, so far I seem to be getting a weaker signal than before: status led used to be green all the time (except when it was alternating between green & red like a set of deranged traffic lights), and usually there used to be 4..5 signal strength leds on.

Now, after the firmware update:
status led: mostly amber(more like yellow actually), and mostly 2 signal strength leds. I suppose it is possible that the new firmware has changed the operation of the status led...?

So, what's happened to the UTD's signal strength? Is there a tower down or is it the new firmware?

Having said that, it hasn't dropped the connection yet today, which is a +ve.

/* :(
Ok scratch most of that semi+ve sentiment:

Just as I hit Submit Reply, the UTD started doing its deranged traffic light thing, nay the problem is not with my UTD it's them techies tweaking on the iBurst network again.

Oh and the connection did drop & I could not reconnect for 10mins whilst all this was happening, basically the usual, nothing much has changed for me :(

IC, personally, I don't think the signal indicator is as accurate as it should be, even after firmware update. I hope we can address this in a future update.

With regards to your 10 min disconnection, it was not the techies this time - we went home early tonight. But if you give me your current location, I will try to follow up tomorrow.

Anakin,

thanks I really will appreciate it, I'm in Bryanston & the deranged traffic light thing happens every day, sometimes for short periods, and at other times much longer.

Updraded UTD this morning. Can't be sure about any noticeable improvements. Did connect first time after u/g rather than 'username/pw invalid on domain' error, but that could simply be greater nw stability.

Those who flame WBS here should bear in mind that this is implementation and roll-out phase, so nw up/down should be expected. I for one think they're doing marvellously, though of course we'd like things to work 7/24 without interruption. Perfection this side of the grave? Not likely.
Well done, WBS (and Kyocera).
The firmware u/g was painless.
You're doing great. Keep up the good work (and get to Grahamstown soon - I have lotsa family at Rhodes and they'd love to get connected).

Those with UTDs: did you receive any kind of power adapter thing (presumably for the transformer) that was alluded to by the firmware update program (dialog with all the things to tick off)?

If there are likely to be numerous firmware updates that WBS want us to apply it would be better to have a way of plugging the UTD transformer into one's UPS (permanently).

Perhaps I should do what Noone did, jerry-rig something...

My UTD was already up to date, so no flash required this time around. I did not get any kind of additional adapter for the supplied transformer. When I got my UPS, I attached the appropriate connector to a power strip's lead, hooked that up the UPS, and have my PC, monitor, modem, and now UTD hooked up to the strip. Quick to do and nice for when I have a momentary (or longer!) outage while online.

Firmware update: UTD S/W ver 1105C022 2004-11-27

Well, things have been quite stable today, post-firmware-update.

Unfortunately I cannot determine whether the firmware update itself has made a difference, or if the network has been more stable (for me) today, than usual.

The diminished signal strength I experienced yesterday, appears to have been on the network/basestation side.

I can say that the firmware update has not made things worse :)

Does anyone know what the OTA (Over the Air) UTD & UTC Firware version details are (you will need to have your UTD connected via USB to find out, my UTD is at the end of a long ethernet cable).

Please mention whether you have a UTD or UTC as the firmware versions are likely to be different.

mmmm, i've just seen it's one of your old threads

they should institute a rule that no one (not me) is able to awake an old thread, it confuses simple folk like me

My firmware was updated about 5 hours ago. I am using UTC, new version 1103C023. I have now had a connection for 6.5 hours. I have not been able to connect for the last 4 weeks so this is a huge improvment for me. The latency still seems to be a problem, but this is a move in the right direction.

This is all very interesting. My version reads 1106C022, 22/2/2005. I'm on a Mac, so I haven't done any firmware upgrades since I got the modem in Dec. So what should the latest firmware be? And does this mean they've updated me last month already?!
