I think I read somewhere that an iBurst user once had problems with downloads from gmail. My connection speed changes from 400 to 800 the next evening......but downloading my emails from gmailstays at a constant 35kb/s (according to my dashboard). On a good day I will download a 1Mb file in just over 10 seconds, but my 1Mb email file takes 2-3 minutes to download.

Are there any settings I have to change to make my gmail downloads faster?

I have no idea as I dont use g-mail often, but I know hotmail doesnt have th esame problem, mostly because any attachments on Hotmail are simply downloaded from a normal http download.

But my general Iburst email accoutn also works very slowly, similar to your speeds I think.. at least the upload is terrible.

You can go look at some old threads about G-mail and Iburst for help, there were a few.

It would seem that e-mail (overall) is throttled on iBurst.
Things like hotmail should be fine (as it uses http protocol).
However, anything downloading via POP3 is p!s slow, even though you were able to just download a file from the web at 100Kb/s.

I have gone ahead and converted to the web interface. With Firefox, GreaseMonkey, some decent scripts and the odd FF extension, it becomes very usable - and ad-free. :) Oh, and the attachments come down via http.

I didn't know this...but wtf is the point of shaping the account if they throttle the mail??

I doubt they throttle Email, I think thier servers are just slow or congested or something.

I mean it says on there site that they dont throttle email.. no no, of course they wouldnt.

I mentioned 'it would seem', it ain't gospel you know :D

Why I say this is no matter from which e-mail accounts I download (2 corporate, 1 Mweb and 1 .MAC - ignore iBurst completely, so it isn't related to their mail server), it never goes beyond the odd 100kb/s (thats Kilobits, not bytes)

EDIT: my normal connection speed is around 800kb/s

I get the same thing... I know it seems like they are throttling those ports, but im just saying that that cant be.

Must be some kind of congestion, even though I dont really get it if it isnt ibursts servers..

Yes, their mail server is ****!

I reckon it's a 486 with Exchange Server 1 beta & F-Prot Anti-Virus on top of it to slow it down to a 386 & Windows 3.0 ... it sucks really bad.

Now what really faaking annoys me, is Outlook telling me every-so-often (actually, too often) that there was a problem connecting to the mail server - and I've 'ticked' the box that says 'Hide this message'?

What is Ibursts official line regarding the throttling of gmail pop3?

I use Gmail for all my e-mail needs and have never had a problem downloading from it, altough sometimes it takes me a while (about a minute) to log in.

I'm now into my second month with iburst and have been using gmail since then, I dont have an iburst email acc and everything runs in and out of gmail from my own domain.

The other thing with GMail is that since it doesnt use the standard pop3 port, but runs over an encrypted connection, even with death by cap, you can still check your mail, though I do tend to have problems downloading large emails when capped. seems to time out a lot...
