Just sad that we live in a gat oor kop country where people consider wireless as an alternative to fixed line instead of using it for alternative applications or for mobility. In our gat oor kop country fixed line actually compares in price somewhat to wireless options. This is already cause for concern but the most troublesome thing is the fact that the majority of our country's people cannot even afford Telkom's basic telephony services!

NOW THAT IS F'ed UP!

What kind of sanctions can be imposed on Iburst?

I would say for all the subscribers joining since running those ads up to the 4th of October ... 12 months free on a 3Gig package.

For the rest of us, 1 or 2 Gigs extra (for free) for 12 months :D

Never mind, that is a **** idea, as their speed is sssooo crap lately!

EDIT: anyone wanting to cancel can take their modem back to iBurst, get a full refund and no penalties for early contract termination

I find this whole 'false advertising' thing rather amusing at times, main because the ASA seems to be regulating a lot better than ICASA :p (when last did you hear ICASA do anything worth while?)

The ASA does seem rather competent and effective. Personally I hope iBurst messes this up and the ASA gets a chance to show it's teeth so we can see what kind of sanctions they impose for non-compliance.

Go iBurst, do not pass go, do not collect R200, go directly to jail. :p

ASA should investigate all speed claims

I am a Vodacom 3G/HSDPA user and am absolutely disgusted with the throughput. I believe that all the wireless services are guilty of making speed claims that, while they are not actually false, have no reasonable chance of being achieved. I don't see the difference between iBurst claiming up to 17x dial-up speed and Vodacom claiming up to 1.8Mbps for HSDPA as I definitely knowing that the latter is a pipe dream.

At 3:20 am. this morning, when the web should be reasonably quiet, I have just achieved the magnificent download speed of 43kbps according to Vodacom's speedtest!!!

Yes, all the advertising states that the various services provide speeds of "up to blah, blah bps". I believe that all the promotional material should rather state that the service is "capable of blah, blah bps". The distinction is subtle but does more to wake the potential buyer up to the fact that they are going to be disappointed with the performance.

I have checked my setup and have proved to myself that I can, given the right circumstances, achieve HSDPA speeds so there is nothing wrong with my computer/modem/antenna setup.

I work on my computer at all hours of the day and night and estimate my average/typical speed to be slower than dial-up. In fact for significant periods its in the region of 10 to 20kbps. Very seldom do I achieve 3G speeds and God help me when I actually achieve above that as I won't know what to do with my free time.

I am extremely angry with the situation and I am changing immediately to an ADSL option. The problem of course is that I have signed up for 2 years with Vodacom.

Does anyone know how I can claim back the remainder of my contract with Vodacom and how I can raise the issue with the ASA?

I wish someone will take MTN's 3G and HSDPA to to ASA.

MTN's upload speed is NEVER more than 64kbps... It seems that they try to block Skype...

You can dowload a large file in seconds or minutes but if you send a email you're about equal to dial up!!! hehehe!!!
